I find it totally amazing that these people had the vision to create fantastic gardens knowing they would never see them in all their glory. We are so lucky to be able to purchase plants that are maturing ..and arent I glad too cos Im not so patient!

I would guess that many of their gardeners did..tho maybe not trees..but dont think they lived as long as us either!
About 20 years ago, I gave my father in law a packet of seeds and he said he would sow a tray for me. I put them in the window sill and tended them most carefully until they started to grow a second set of leaves..then realised they were nettles!
We didnt let on of course as he was getting on in years..

One holiday we left our daughter with strict instructions to take great care with 4 plants....matter of life or death etc (a fortnight she lovingly tended them) they all turned out to be weeds, shhhhh we never told her lol
