mum used to have these on her window sill... we (as children) used to slice them open and wipe the 'snot' as we called it on each other!! we were such delightful children! shouldn't admit to these things should i??

Oh, My parents and grandparents were mad on these when I was a wee laddie! One of the first things I learned to grow from offstes. haven't seen them in decades. Many thanx for this reminder, Jasmine. Also, re our fuchsia "Twister", I thought that it was an annual basket plant, yet you say yours has survived from last year. Hope it flowers for you, again.

Fantastic display of aloe. Do these over winter outside to induce flowering? Or is there some other secret? I don't know that I have ever seen them flowering.

I just leave them to do their own thing - some are inside and some outside but all seem to flower around the same time - usually late winter/early spring.

I like these, they look very striking.
What else?
See who else is growing Aloe variegata (Partridge-breasted aloe).
See who else has plants in genus Aloe.

Welcome to GOY. I have never had Aloe vera so have never seen its flowers. Interesting plant.
