You growing the American blue variety Mike? Not sure if yours the same but possible here to buy duds that will never flower. Not a fan of buying plants in flower as shouldnt be trying to root as flowering but feel wisteria the exception.Buying one with evidence of flower buds is best way to ensure success in following seasons. There were plants 4times the size and price with a mass of leaf but no buds so glad I chose this litte one .20 plus flower racemes and only 3 feet tall.

Wisterias have been my preferred flowers ever. Bought one about 4 years ago with flower buds, but no flowers since. I have it planted in a pot, lots of sun in my balcony, it grows fast and i have to cut the branches very often, but... no flowers... do you have any suggestions?

I got three starts from a friends plant that blooms like crazy each year so I hope mine will bloom eventually.
Aleyna... I cut mine back a lot too and thought maybe thats why it hasn't bloomed but my friend who has the mother plant cuts his plant back a lot too and it has hundreds of flowers on it in the spring.

I was wondering the same Mike... when you see them covered with flowers not often they also have a lot of leaves...like magnolias, leaves come after flowers...I'll try avoid cutting next spring :o)

That true Aleyna ,Mike right they do need pruning to produce flowers. No expert and obviously this plant means a great deal to you - would hate to give inappropriate advice as you in southern hemisphere.
So guess you approaching warmest part of year- lucky you.At end our summers we cut back those long wispy new shoots to about 12" ( 30cms) . 6 months later in our winter we cut these side shoots back to 4"(10cms) just above bud joints. This stops leaf production and encourages flower growth so ideally you should have flowers before leaves emerge.
Left they will produce the odd flower but will concentrate on producing leaves. So if you do this at end of your summer and in your winter same rules should apply.Hope this helps some.
What else?
See who else is growing Wisteria sinensis (Chinese wisteria).
See who else has plants in genus Wisteria.
