Thanks everyone , if you saw this at any other time of the year you wouldn't look at it twice , it's an evergreen which is why I bought it in the first place , it's approx 3/4ft high I trim it to keep it reasonable , when the flowers have gone off berries start to form ..by the autumn you have bunches of black berries where the flowers were .. it's no trouble at all ...

I just posted a query on a similar flower. I was able to pin it down thanks to goy members as Aronia arbutifolia 'Erecta'. It is the red chokeberry. The fruits of both are edible but I can eat mine from the tree whereas it is recommended that you cook yours. Mine is sweeter and yours sharper. Yours has the advantage of being a rich source of anthocyanin class of anti-oxidants.
Plants are so interesting. Do you make jam with yours? There are all sorts of recipes on the web for black chokeberry. Mine was a welcome gift from a bird so I did not choose it.
ps the autumn leaf colour is outstanding.

Well Scotsgran thats so interesting ,I always assumed they were poisonous , it hadn't occured to me to do anything with the berries ,thanks for that I'm always keen to use any produce from our garden I shall be looking further into the use of the berries .. :o)

These do not seem to be too widely grown in Uk but going on my own one I think they should be better known.

Owdbogg has just posted a comment on my question saying they use the juice of their berries for making jam as the seeds are rather bitter. He grows the black chokeberry.

Thanks Scotsgran making it into Jam would be best to sweeten it .. I wonder if they have a good pectin content similar to Blackcurrants ?

I would think the black chokeberry will have as it is the sharper of the two.
