I'd grow this plant for the foliage alone but just look at those flowers!
A sunny spot suits it best and it grows a couple of feet tall with the same spread. Earlier this spring, I acquired a double-flowered form and there is a flower bud forming on it - watch this space

I have to agree with you Andrew - I fell in love with this plant at Dundee Botanics before it was in flower - just the foliage and the buds - just thought it was so beautiful - I had to lie on the grass and soak in its beauty (no doubt passers by thought I was mad) - and I knew that I had to have one, which I got from Binny Plants in February 2007 - just a small amount of foliage last year, a larger amount of lovely foliage has opened out this year and I am just so looking forward to the year that it chooses to flower. I have yet to see P. Tenuifolium in flower - keep arriving at the wrong time at Dundee Botanics. Not sure I would like the double form - always thinking about what is friendly to bees, but looking forward to seeing your pictures. Hope the open day goes well.
This photo is of species Paeonia tenuifolium.
See who else has plants in genus Paeonia.
