At the moment, the Cornus is still bearing its typical winter red-coloured stems, but they will darken soon. Its common name is "Black Stem Dogwood".

Lovely shot.

I've just bought a blacked stemmed dogwood from Ebay, David. Yours looks lovely with the carex.

You will enjoy this one, Gee, especially when the white flower clusters appear against the dark branches.

Thanks, GT.

David...my carex seems very 'dry' and brittle to the touch, I know it's a grass but I wonder if it has suffered due to the winter. (It's in a pot). What do you think, are yours the same at the moment?

Hi Pg. my carex and other grasses are fine (gave them haircuts recently). They were all in a raised bed over the winter, and i only transplanted them into pots early March as i needed to move them. They were buried under snow at Christmas for a long time, then again a few weeks ago after potting them up. They have survived, and are soft to the touch and waving in the breeze.

I do hope you haven't lost yours. Perhaps you might get good advice on where to go forward with care/treatment of your carex if you post as a question, as I wouldn't really know what would be best, except, perhaps, for repotting into fresh compost and some feed?

Good Luck with it. :-))

Sorry David, late getting back to this...I will try a trim may-be, it has had a light feed to try to help the roots. My Zebra grass is not putting up new growth either. :o(....I seem to have lost several plants to the winter. Funny isn't it...they are all in the same area, as I only have one place to put things, yet some are OK.

There seems to have been no rhyme nor reason for which plants survived that winter, Pg. Sounds like you can do no more but wait and see, now. I hope that your Zebra grass revives - I think this one is amazing.
