Alaska Pipeline and Brooks Range

Alaska Pipeline and Brooks Range

Just came across an old photo, this is the late fall far north in the Brooks range. I don't know the name of thepeak off hand, this is the gateway to Atigun Pass, crossing over to the north slope of Alaska. About 150 miles north of the arctic circle.

Thanks for the comments. And Happy New Years to You all as well. :-)

Gee, this place is very lonely. Towns are about 100 miles apart and have about 10-12 residents. This is mostly a trucking road to the north slope oil fields whre the oil pipeline pictured on the left here run down from. No sun rise for months here above the arctic circle in winter.

Thanks Delonix. This visit has me wishing for a summer visit, and a clear day. Still haven't done it, this is 300 miles north of here on dirt highway.

GT:

Sounds like quite a drive form your house. I guess you'll have to wait until summer? I would guess it would take several hours to get there on a dirt road 300 miles away.

At least the day to get there, a day to get back. Oil Trucks and such supplying the North Slope oil fields keep the road in alright condition, but best to take a spare tire or two. There are almost no services along this road.

GT:

That's quite a trek. It's probably worth it though. : > )

Well worth it. I want to time a trip just following the worst of the mosquito, end of July. Getting over the pass one sees the north slope, so called beacuse all land gently sink out to the arctic ocean from the north side of these slopes. Thats something I want to see. Maybe join the polar bear club with a dip in the arctic ocean. :-)
