A little beauty for my shade area!

I really like that Spritz. That would be nice in MY shady area! Will take a note of it.

Lovely, bought one for my wooded area too this year but mine has white flowers.

Is yours a T. wherryi, Bb? I've checked this on various Nursery lists, and it doesn't seem to be. I'm a bit surprised!

2 Nov, 2009

I have one of these but it doesn't flower until late spring. Is your's late or mine early?

2 Nov, 2009

The label says ...until autumn, Toto. So it may have been in a polytunnel, I suspect!

Yes mine is Wherryi Spritzhenry, yours is a lovely colour have to search it out, is yours flowering now? mine flowered back in early summer.

2 Nov, 2009

I guess that you are right Spritz. I love the colour, form and leaves of this and look forward to it each year.

Don't forget it's a new purchase, Simbad - so it may well flower at the 'right' time next year! The label does say it flowers later, though. I shall wait and see. :-))

love it barbara :o))

2 Nov, 2009

:-) So do I, Sandra! Can't wait to see it in the garden, not in a box! LOL.

2 Nov, 2009

i bet, going on my favourites :o)

2 Nov, 2009

Thanks! How lovely. :-))))))

thanks for drawing my attention to it. :o)
i have wherryi and i love it.

lol sea.. :o)))

That's so pretty it is aptly named as it reminds me of a firework especially against the dark background

2 Nov, 2009

they are such pretty, delicate flowers

Pip - that's the flash! I wasn't THAT late back, but it was dark at just before 5, so the flash went off! It is really lovely, though.. Sadly, it won't be planted today - guess what - it's pouring here. :-(((

3 Nov, 2009

It was the same here Spritz. I left my plants o/s in cardboard box which is now all mush though the plants are happy. I'd have to try and replicate the effect in the garden with dark background foliage and possibly a small garden light solar powered of course

3 Nov, 2009

Beautiful flower against it's dark foliage.

3 Nov, 2009

Thanks, Wagger.

Pip - oh Pip! What have I started here!? Major gardening work, solar lighting, whatever next? LOL. I hope this is inspiration, not 'hard work' time!

3 Nov, 2009

I know Spritz, my brain is capable of far more than my body LoL
Just seems such a shame to not try and replicate the effect on occassions
As for looking out for the photinias I keep coming up with ideas then have to remember that I will only have a limited space LoL
That's what I love about this site. It gets me so inspired and excited now I just have to learn how to temper it :~)))

Well, they are a very small plant - evergreen, red leaves, hardy, too. I'd say they were a very good use of space! I hope your GC or Nursery stocks them. Take a look if you see them!

3 Nov, 2009

I will do once I have moved. For all my basic structure shrubs I know a gardener with a polytunnel and he only charges me £2 a shrub but will ask him about these and see if he can get hold of any other than that I will have to go to the GCs. Called in on a v small nursery attached to a farm to get my box of goodies yesterday. They are all perennials and were £1/plant. Again basic stuff but means it leaves something in the coffers for the specials

Amazing price! My little 'family-run' Nursery only has a limited range of plants, but I have had several gems from them. They have fuchsias at £1.50 in the late spring - a quarter of the price of the GC!

I got three Heucheras for £2.50 each there recently. Great, isn't it! :-)) It's knowing where to go, isn't it!

Thats a very pretty one Spritz .. thats one for my list !

3 Nov, 2009

Your prices even beat mine and I thought I was doing well :~))
Bought 1 Heuchara for £1 but I am really after Caramel, Chocolate Ruffles and Key Lime Pie and others as I like Heucharas but won't get them for £1. Love your Tiarellas, used to have them many years ago in Yorkshire and will build up again but so much to build up as starting from scratch. On a positive note there will be many more improved varieties than 8 years ago.
As for my cheap sources I don't tell others as they have only a small supply. Best thing about the small suppliers as opposed to Gcs is that the plants aren't forced.

Its lovely really like it.

3 Nov, 2009

this is lovely... i have one of these, maybe a different variety, but mine flowered much ealier in the year.... lovely leaf cololur and form too.... i know you will love this plant :-)

3 Nov, 2009

Splendid! I'll have to look out for some of these.

3 Nov, 2009

What a beautiful looking bloom all the more enphasized by the flashing in the dark. Just wonderful.

9 Nov, 2009

Thanks, Gt. The plants look good in the soil, too! :-))

9 Nov, 2009

Oh no, now I want this too:-( But I do have somewhere to put it:-) I always thought of tiarellas as insignificant little flowers, but looked at closely they're rather lovely aren't they. Does it spread much? It won't become a thug will it?;-)

9 Nov, 2009

I have seen these in the White Flower farms gardening catalogue used int he shady gardens..they put on a wonderful display in masses of them..I would love to be able to make a whole field of them with other plants in front of them..they get fairly tall if I remember right...

9 Nov, 2009

I don't think these ones do, Cat. I'd love a taller one! Must look wonderful! :-)))))

Ba - absolutely not! They do form clumps, but are NOT invasive! :-)))

9 Nov, 2009

Goodo, my makeover is well underway, so they're on my list:-)

10 Nov, 2009

:-)) Good luck with the tracking down!
