My lovely little greenhouse

My lovely little greenhouse

A mini greenhouse for our little garden. I was delighted when I found this one. It is only 6ft 4 inches wide by 2 ft 4 deep by 6ft 10 tall at the ridge and it fits the space available perfectly. I've started growing some winter salad leaves and am attempting to get some camellia seeds to germinate.

Thanks Bloomer. As such an inexperienced gardener, as far as growing from seed is concerned, things are not going as well as I'd hoped with my salad seedlings. I'm putting a confessional blog together at the moment and will be seeking advice from the GoY community.

I haven't even got room for a greenhouse like yours, but I manage ok with my
4 tier plastic one,and a cold frame.I tried 3 runner bean plants in a trough this year in mine.I removed the 3 top shelves and tied canes to the supports, but because it was a bit early to have them unprotected in case of frost,I waited
till june before removing the cover.I'm pleased to say they were successful.I had to make another framework with more canes to tie on top of the others, and wondered whether to put a flag on top,A Yorkshire White rose of course! Ha Ha.
So Claire, everything is trial and error, you will be so proud when you eat your first produce.Just enjoy doing it. Sandra x

Welcome to GoY, Calireinbude. I'm a bit late in doing that, but never mind. I hail from Cornwall (St. Austell mostly) originally, so I know you're in a really lovely area. This greenhouse is amazing - what a great idea, so economical in space! Have you been to Eden or the Lost Gardens of Heligan yet? I recommend them highly. Loved the photos of your Surrey harden too - that must have been hard to leave, but it looks like you're making good progress with your new one. Keep persevering. You'll find everyone on GoY is so encouraging.

Thanks for the welcome Elke. I don't think I could have found a friendlier bunch than you GoY guys!

I lived in Sweetshouse (near Lostwithiel) until I was 11, then Bodmin and Roche, working for a time in St Austell so the area is very familiar to me. I've been away, at college, working, traveling, more working ... since I was 18 so it's good to be back on home soil.

When did you leave Cornwall? Do you ever get back for visits?

Thanks for the prompt about Eden and Heligan - I'm already a fan - in fact I am a founder friend of Eden, I fell in love with it when it was just an idea in Tim Smitt's mind and people were telling him it was impossible.

I was talking today with a neighbour from Surrey. She says that the people who bought our house have allowed it to run riot! They don't seem to have time or inclination for gardening. What a shame. They don't know what they are missing do they!

This is a lovely little green house.
Are these slim greenhouses the ones that are sometimes called
"greenhouse slices" ?

I've not heard it called that Tt but it's a great description.
This is a Halls 6ft x 2ft Supreme Curved Wall Garden Lean To.
(Actually 6ft4in by 2ft 4in)

I think it was chatting to GoY member Maccrimmon where I first heard that "slice" description...
maybe a local Scottish term..Lol.
