Where on Earth Are You? An update...

Posted on 30 Apr, 2008 15 comments

Thanks to Bonkersbon and our global community of garden lovers for pointing out the frustration of not knowing where other members are from when they ask a question.

Thanks also to those that emailed me and Ajay to agree with Bonkers, it’s great to get feedback letting us know what can be improved on the site

Anyway, on the back of the discussion we’ve made a few changes to help with this.

Firstly we’ve made a change so that most new members will have a country specified.

Secondly, if you hover on a member icon you’ll now get a small box showing you when they join and where they’re from. Clicking on any member icon will now always go straight to their profile page.

I hope that helps, and please let us know what you think or if you have any other suggestions for improvement.

Thank you both for the help - it will make answering much quicker. Now please persuade every member to add where they are on their profile!!!!

Forgot to mention that Spritz! New members should have it populated automatically on sign up now.

For those existing members that haven't stated the country they're from, it would be really helpful if you set it (it's an option in 'update profile' on your homepage). The advice you'll get will be much more relevant too :o)

Thank you Peter and Ajay should also thank Mikec as it became obvious to us both that we had encountered similar problems on different sides of the pond(no pun intended ) .do you think a flag symbol by each members homepage would at least identify our country of origin? Is this feasible or too complex?

Its brilliant, so much information so easily found ! Many thanks Bonkers & Mike for voicing what I am sure had been in many of our minds and Peter & Ajay for adding this facility to the forum :-)

Thankyou so much for adding the country ... it makes it so much easier when reading features to have this information at hand. With so many new members joining daily, it is hard to remember who lives where. This does the trick!

Brilliant, i have often wondered where other members gardens are whilst looking through the photos. Must admit i rarely clicked onto their profile to look if i was looking at the pictures. Now can see easily - GOY gets better and better!!

Just updated. Makes things easier. Now you know where people live. Explains why some flowers and shrubs are one step ahead of your own, when you know the location.

Fantastic web site by the way. I have found out loads of good info already from other members on here. Hopefully I will keep finding more.

I love the little flags appearing now! Well done, all those who thought of it and implemented it!
