August gardening

Yesterday was the first chance I’ve had to really get to grips with the garden since the heatwave. OH cut the lawn for the first time in 2 months. Glad to see it is slowly recovering although I’m not yet confident that it will all come back.
I spent the whole day weeding, tidying up dead leaves and cutting back blown over plants to prolong the look of Summer for a few more weeks. Brown leaves are not allowed in my garden before October!
This is the time of year when I really get the urge to start trimming the shrubs and moving things around for next year. But I have to be restrained as it’s still too hot to be moving plants.
Late July and early August is the absolutely worst time in my shady garden as we have so little Summer colour. But now my hydrangea and 2 hibiscus are out with geraniums, crocosmia and cyclamen under the magnolia trees.
