Some Work In The Garden To help Shed Some Pounds so The Duke Can Fit Int...

It’s a beautiful, springlike, sunny day today so I got out in the garden. After so much rain and wind, it’s not been possible to do anything for the last few days.Plus, we had mum’s funeral on Tuesday.
But, the really strong winds of the last few days have at least dried the garden a little. I particulalry wanted to dig the veg patch as it was getting a bit weedy and I wanted to incorporate a little more compost although I don’t have much left. We don’t produce anywhere near the amount of compostable material as we used to in my old , much larger garden.
The overwintering onions haven’t done much but, at least they haven’t rotted with all the rain this winter. They had quite a lot of weeds to compete with though, so I weeded around them while digging the rest of the patch.

And, as the grass was the driest it’s been for a while, I gave it a light trim to tidy it up.

But, the strong winds haven’t done all good…….my fence post and arris rail were damaged by the winds a couple of weeks ago so I’ve just done a temporary prop up job for the moment!

Hopefully, this bit of excercise may have helped shed a little from the wasteline as I have to get into my Duke Of Westelton costume on the weekend of 6th /7th Feb. It’s a bit of a squeeze. When I bought it all about 15months ago, the military tailed jacket was only available in 48 chest which would have swamped me …or 38 .So, I got the 38 and have to breath in a bit.

Now, those of you who have young grandchildren who are interested in the ‘Frozen’ film may know of the Duke……he’s a crazy charachter who does even crazier dancing…..yes, I think I could get typecast here!!!
So, hopefully I’ll fit in to the costume…but once I start running around doing the ‘agile peacock’ and ‘Chicken with the face of a monkey’ dances, the weight will fall off me!!

Right, I’m off for a bike ride or swim now …..got to fit in to that jacket!

Happy gardening and crazy dancing,

Paul

Thanks Jane. Smaller garden than I'm used to but it takes less work to keep it tidy!

Its been a good day here as well Paul, makes all the difference if dry enough to turn the earth and do a bit of weeding if needed, also to run the mower over, yours looks so neat, wish I'd taken advantage really but I have been out again and made a start cutting the perenials down, can now see my bulbs and hellebores coming through.
I now have a mental image of you strutting your stuff in your costume, lol.....

Ha ha....yes, he's a bit crazy, the Duke. Just the right part for me!

Our fence is in danger of coming down as well Paul ,its propped in a couple of places , Good luck with getting into your jacket You can come and cut the rest of my lawn that'll take another couple of pounds off your waist Lol...

You are so kind Amy...thank you. And if I cycle to yours, towing the mower behind, I'll lose a bit more weight but I might need a smaller jacket then!

You are a dead ringer for Major General Stanley in the Pirates of Penzance you know!

28 Jan, 2016

Ha ha.....didn't think of that!
But I bet he can't do the 'Agile Peacock' or 'Chicken with the face of a monkey ' dance

It's a bit drier still this morning Sandra as the wind is blowing a gale again!its hard to stand upright, it's so windy!

29 Jan, 2016

Yes - I have to agree you'd make a good Major General, Paul.

Your lawn looks good! I've already got crocuses out, a few snowdrops and even a couple of anemone blanda. And a bacopa in a basket has flowered on and off since May.

I'm sure you'll fit into your jacket!

glad its been drier for you. we had a really heavy downpour for about 40 mins at mid day today and the winds have been horrendous. now its sunny and just breezy.

all dressed up soon. enjoy

Still no rain here Seaburn G although it was forecast tonight.
Yes, everything is confused Melchi. I have a summer clematis in bloom and my first daffodil flower since living at this house.

How nice to have been able to mow the lawn, it makes such a difference.

Ours looks like a field at the moment and is so soggy! However two pots of miniature daffodils by the back door stop me looking at the messy lawn!!!

Yes, avert your eyes!we were lucky to get our grass trimmed in early December too otherwise it would be very wild as its not stopped growing all winter!

Looking neat Paul ... but where's the deck-chair ? ;o)

31 Jan, 2016

You make me feel quite ashamed Paul ! I've had a few dry days in the last few weeks , but didn't really feel like cutting the grass ! I did, however edge around it, pinching a bit more from the borders and hopefully Rick won't notice! Hahaa! I'm really sorry about your Mum ! You do so well to get on with things and I bet she was really proud of you as well as making her smile !

Ha ha Tt.......someone's been viewing my Facebook posts!!
I'm currently in training for my stint at the farm, as Mad Hatter at Easter. That is usually a 12 or 13 day stint which is quite gruelling, particularly with all the deck chair shenanigans!!
It's only a small lawn in comparison with my old ones Rose so didn't take very long. Mind you, didn't get round to doing the edges.I didn't want to walk on the lawn too much.

Hello Dawn....the veg patch is small , only 15 x6 ft .but, that will do me......I cram it in!
I have done the Duke about ten times before Dawn, it's quite good fun with all the crazy dancing and I love it when I get all the kids up n the stage in the theatre, doing the silly dancing with me!
I used to love that song on your link ..."Duke of Earl" ...the lead singer of Darts(can't think of his name) was a bit crazy, like my Duke, too!!

2 Feb, 2016

The one and only Duke of Earl is Gene Chandler, all the others are usurpers.

2 Feb, 2016

It was a great version of it though...and, I remember it as a youngster!

3 Feb, 2016

It look a lot bigger than thst Paul. He he cramming them in I did watch on a kids tv once a lady growing all her yearly crop in a space 1m x 1m .

Sounds great fun getting the kids on stage and dancing crazy dancing with you after all you hour only letting a bit of inner self out. I did nt know you had been doing The Duke character.

Names of the Darts were.
