What a Week!

I’ve not been on here for a week or so and not done much in the garden either. It’s not been a great time. Last Sunday, I dropped my I pad from the arm of the sofa and it stopped working. I had a bad cold which I’d had since the previous Tuesday but, I didn’t realise that it had only just started. So, I still went to work on Monday (in the area where I used to live) and took my iPad to a repair centre where I’d been recommended. However, it turned out they didn’t repair I pads so he recommended a place across the road.
Well, I shouldn’t have gone to work that day as it just made me worse. I thought I’d felt bad up to then but boy, did it get worse. I just can’t shake it off…..I think it’s the worst cold I’ve had in years .its still with me…..I can’t stop coughing (I am asthmatic, so it always goes to my chest) but, I also have a really heavy head/face! I understand there’s ‘a lot of it about’ as they say but, I wouldn’t wish it on anyone else. On the Thursday, five days before the cold came out, I had had my flu jab and started to wonder if the cold was a reaction to that.
But, the week got worse…….the guy promised me he’d have my iPad repaired by Thursday and would ring me but, of course he didn’t so I rang him and he told me he was waiting for a part to arrive. So, the next day,I went in and he told me something completely different and he hadn’t even established what was wrong with it, let alone ordered parts. Well, byFriday I was getting worried, especially as he’d promised to ring me but at 3.15 pm, he hadn’t so I rang him and he was closed.(over an hour early) Was he avoiding me??
But, I left a strong message and he rang back on Saturday morning to say it was ready….I can tell you, I had started to give up on getting it back. So, I was rushing about Saturday morning to go and pick it up before going to football (I do the announcing and play the music at my team Grays Athletic’s home games and use the iPad to play the music) and I stopped off at the post office to get some cash out of the cash machine to pay for the repair. I was still coughing uncontrollably as I tried to park my car and, yes, you’ve guessed it….I touched my car up against another. No bang or crash.I didn’t even realise I was touching the other vehicle(as I avoided parking near a driveway) but, rushing about and being distracted by coughing means, wallop, there goes my no claim discount!!
But, I got the iPad back(just as well as I can’t use the PC as it makes me ill….I know I’ve mentioned this before so won’t bore you all but, it would seem it’s all part and parcel of my Fibro Myalgia).I did use the PC a couple times but not for long. And, at least Grays Ath won 4-0 so, hopefully, my luck is changing. I still have a horrible cold and feel absolutely drained and exhausted but, hope to get in the garden/ greenhouse tomorrow .
I may even get some photos, to post on GOY, of the grasses in my garden, some of which are now flowering for the first time). I hope you are all enjoying the still reasonable autumn weather and hope it lasts a bit longer so I can enjoy it too.
Happy gardening
Paul

Oh dear, what a succession of unpleasant happenings. I do hope you feel better soon. Look after yourself!

What a terrible time you have had Paul. Winter hasn't even started yet and you have been struck down with a cold. Hot toddy I think!

18 Oct, 2015

I was wondering about that flu shot too. Sorry you had such a trying week, hopefully the worse is behind you. Get rest and eat your veggies.

Fibro makes viruses just so much worse doesn't it Paul ( one school of thought thinks that a virus damaged the immune system in the first place......) FMS is a syndrome where your body overreacts to, well , anything and poor Pauls week has all the hallmarks of a bad fibro flareup ( I dread them)

The really bad cold, the clumsiness, exhaustion, fibro fog ......where the stuffed up cotton wool head won't go away.....lack of concentration

Some days are better than others and you feel almost normal, until you wake next morning feeling like everywhere aches.....then you meet a friend....Gosh they say, you do look well!

Thats Fibro (and more besides 😞), I do hope you feel better soon Paul take it easy lad if you can, it will get better, it always does......eventually xxx

hope you have a better week this week Paul...but dont be too quick to get back to work...REST!!!!

19 Oct, 2015

Oh...poor you ! Don't you find that when you are ill , everything seems to go wrong ! I have just gotten over the reaction to my flu jab, but only lasted two days , so I think you must be run down....not literally! Hahaa!
One of my friends has F.M. and suffers quite badly with it . I don't know much about it, but I imagine this doesn't help when you are ill !
I hope you feel better soon !

Thanks everyone. I hope for a better week this week. Not working till Wednesday but I am going to try have a tidy outside in the garden/greenhouse today. I'm also going to go for a gentle swim. It's important not to overdo it but I definitely know that my Fibro myalgia(FMS) is better controlled when doing regular excercise but I just don't get the chance in the spring/summer.
Pam knows what it's like. Yes, the blocked up head that won't work properly.I just can't concentrate on anything anymore.and I have no strength at all. I need to get better for next week as I am working 8 daysfrom Saturday at the Farm Park....where I will be running around like a loony dressed as Wizard Cello. 6 hours a day of that for 8 days is quite tiring so I need to feel better before that starts!

19 Oct, 2015

I haven't had a flu jab......fibro can react oddly with some medication, well most things really I guess so maybe that didn't help
but thereagain the flu plays havoc with the immune system too......
as you say gentle exercise then rest and you should improve by the weekend ☺

You're the second person this week who's said they had a bad reaction to this years flu jab. I think I'll give it a miss.
Paul you really should be resting rather than rushing around, give your body a chance to recover. Hope you feel better very soon.

19 Oct, 2015

I'm giving it a miss too. I can't even remember the last time I had the flu.

19 Oct, 2015

Sorry you have had such a bad week thing can only get better.
Wife and myself both had flu jab and had no bad effects.

19 Oct, 2015

Thanks everyone.I've never had a bad reaction to the flu jab and, I don't know if I have this time but it may be something to do with it, I don't know. The last two occassions that I didn't have the jab, I had flu and was very ill so I make a point of having it.I think I've been having it for about 15 years now.
I did an hour and half in garden/greenhouse this morning but that was enough. And I had my swim but found it a real struggle. And, now, I'm completely zonked!

19 Oct, 2015

Well Paul, that didn't make for good reading at all. Sorry to hear of your rotten week, at least you won't need to play "Things can only get better!". Our local village team lost 8-1 on Saturday. :o((

Hope you're feeling much better soon :o)

19 Oct, 2015

Hope you feel better soon Paul, feeling a bit rough and definitely zonked as you put it myself so you have my sympathy...

Brighton & Hove are doing well though Shirley 😊
Especially Zamora I understand. .....old men at 35!!

20 Oct, 2015

Yes indeed, Pam, my son and OH are going to The Amex this evening, hoping for another win!

20 Oct, 2015

Yes.....he obviously learnt his trade at White Hart Lane
(Sit back and await the response)
I am feeling a little better today but still not right. I went to Southend and picked up Santa today(well, his wig, beard and moustache ) from the wig hairdresser lady, so, that cheered me up a bit.
Thank you all for your well wishes
GraysAth have a big game this Sunday Shirley. We've reached the 4th qualifying round of the FA Cup fr the first time since our big demise from th eConference and we are playing conference side Welling(two leagues above us) but, alas I shall miss it as I'm being WizardCello at the farm park for Wizards and Witches week 24th/31st.

Busy for you Paul.......hope you feel ok and your team does well...

you be careful of the ghosies πŸ‘»πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€πŸ‘€

what a start to the season Shirley......better than last year thats for sure!
hope they win, I'm sure my friends will be there too

20 Oct, 2015

Paul, I read your comment out to Michael, can't really print his reply on here, lol!!! Good luck to Grays Ath. on Sunday :o)

Pam, the manager seems to be picking the right players, judging by the past results, long may it continue! Just had a call from the men to say kick-off may be delayed as there has been an RTA between Lewes and The Amex, traffic now gridlocked! :o((

20 Oct, 2015

I see they scraped through with a late winner from the man who learnt his trade at White Hart LaneπŸ˜‚πŸ˜œ

21 Oct, 2015

Paul, you cheeky monkey! Feeling any better on this grey, miserable day? No gardening for me, had to do the housework and bake a fruit cake.

21 Oct, 2015

I'm sorry to say Shirley, I'm still not good.......my chest and head are still a little congested but this Fibro myalgia has really kicked in! Also, I'm struggling with reflux at the moment. I've been on 2 different tablets for over 3 months now but still feel a lump in my chest and throat all day long and struggle swallowing. I'm due to go back to doctor in few weeks but no point mentioning the Fibro as doctors ever do anything about it! Didn't work today due to the rain butt still exhausted so dread to think how I'll be when working 10 days on trot from tomorrow(14 days out of the next 15)

21 Oct, 2015

I really feel for you Paul .......fibro affects absolutly everything in the body, not just tendons, muscles and ligaments.
IBS, , heat....and cold, difficulty controlling temperature (I thought it was hot flushes!), skin problems, you name it

Fibro is the result of the body....all of it....overreacting, at the moment in your case its the cold virus......sends you completly haywire and theres nothing we....or the doctors can do about it,.
I hsve a gp friend who said to take each symptom as it occurs and treat that.
to control the pain can help as it helps stop the overreaction
Its preventing rather than curing
so very very frustrating, and at times very depressing. ....

try to keep warm and rest Paul, xxx

Happy bunnies at the moment Shirley πŸ˜†

shame about the accident, hope it wasn't serious and your fans got to the match......

22 Oct, 2015

Paul, I can't imagine how you must be feeling and just hope you manage to work for the coming ten days. Good luck. :o)

Pam, they got to their seats two minutes before kick-off!

22 Oct, 2015

Gosh that was cutting it fine Shirley!

22 Oct, 2015

There's so few go to Brighton matches ,Pam, they would probably have waited for the two late comers.....ha ha!!

22 Oct, 2015

Not now they have the Amex Paul .....the old Withdean was only about 5000 max I think.....all this is 2nd hand, I've never been to a football match in my life πŸ˜†

hope you're feeling better x

23 Oct, 2015

There were 23,500 fans there ... not bad for an evening game!

Pam, the only game I went to was back in the 70's at Chelsea. I was terrified of the huge crowd, the Police on horseback outside of the ground too!

23 Oct, 2015

Scary Shirley 😲

thats brilliant for an evening game.......
the fan base was always there I think, do you remember the playoffs that filled the Millenium stadium before Amex was built?....

23 Oct, 2015

I remember going to the old goldstone ground when Spurs played there once in the early 80's .when it was full, it really rocked.Great atmosphere!
I remember Jimmy case was playing for Brighton that day!!cant remember any of the others for Brighton.
I'm slowly getting better, thanks Pam , but still having coughing fits. Woke me up and kept me awake for some time last night but, hopefully it won't effect my voice too much in the next eight days as I'm being a wizard entertainer at a farm park again so, lots of talking at top of voice!!

23 Oct, 2015

Shirley, when my dad took me to see Chelsea man Utd as a kid (late sixties) I can r,ember the crowds and the police horses. I, along with lots of other youngsters wer lifted to the front by adults and they let my dad squeeze through with me......but different to these days with all seated grounds. I can also remember sitting in the seats above the terracing at white hart lane(Spurs) around the same period and watching children being rolled over the heads of fans to get to the front!! People used to take drinks crates with them to stand on ha ha....how things have changed!!

23 Oct, 2015

Ah, the Goldstone ground, now a retail park. Peter Ward is the player Michael loved watching, such a talent apparently!

I have to tell you that there are three Albion fans who take the old-fashioned rattles, passed down through the family from 1964, to home games!

23 Oct, 2015

Ha ha...yes, I had a wooden one painted navy and white(Tottenham colours) in the 60's.
I remember Peter ward, a small midfielder, I think....may have transferred to Liverpool (or Forest, maybe?)at one point in his career!

2 Nov, 2015

Ah, good memories eh Paul? No good asking me about footballers, I don't take that much interest! I was told that the Seagulls are not top of the table today :o(
