Isn't Nige (Nigel the retriever) Lovely?...Lucky old Monty

Have you seen the trailers for Gardeners’ World, that Monty and his faithful companion Nigel have made recently? They have been posted on the GW Facebook page which is why I’ve been aware of them.
They certainly make me smile ….and Julie, who is a much bigger fan of Nigel’s than she is of Gardener’s World. In fact, this year, she has watched a few, just to get a glimpse of him. And, she was delighted to see that Nigel is the subject of a new topiary that is taking shape.

Here are a couple of links for those who haven’t seen them although, you’ll have to copy and paste it, I think. Or go on to Facebook and search for BBC Gardeners’ World. I suspect they are on the GW web site too although, I don’t know.

I look forward to seeing him, and Monty, this evening on the box. I still refer to the TV as the ‘box’ but, they aren’t boxes anymore, are they?? In fact, youngsters don’t know how easy they have it these days. In my day, it was two man job to carry a 26 inch TV….now , they can carry it on one shoulder whilst sending a text with the other hand…..But I digress, ha ha.How terrible it is to get old and bitter!!!!!
Happy gardening

Paul

It is lovely to watch the two of them together and Nigel really is a beautiful dog. He is so loyal and trusting and I am glad he is featured a lot on the programmes. I am still not a huge fan of Monty though but don't know why!!

Nigel is the only reason Michael watches GW these days ... it's the closest he'll get to having a dog to watch!
Paul, did you know Nigel had a serious accident a couple of years ago, he twisted his back whilst jumping for a ball and partially severed the spinal cord. Thank goodness the so-called 'Supervet' Noel Fitzpatrick treated him with hydrotherapy, physiotherapy and meds to ensure a good recovery. A story with a very happy ending :o)

Yes, I remember Monty saying he was poorly although I didn't know he saw that superset who's on the TV.My former neighbour's dog was attacked by her friends dog a few months ago and she took him to that same vet.Cost her over £3000 .I haven't seen her for a few weeks but last time I did, he still couldn't walk and had no control on his bladder or bowel movements.
Yes, Linda and Wildrose ....he's the star I think. But I don't think Monty minds.

When Monty was wandering round one of the RHS Flower Shows, he said that nearly everyone who came up to him wanted to know where Nigel was! You're right Paul - he doesn't seem to mind. Thanks for the link . . . I'll try it now.

I suppose it's a relief from people always commenting on his style and whether or not they like it. We all like Nigel, it seems.

There is nothing that I can add to your post Paul, yes, I have long been delighted to see Nigel on the TV show, long may he appear and maybe one day on "Britain's Got Talent". :)

Oh blimey Treveor....don't think Nige would be up to walking that tightrope.........Oh, but, then again, he could have a body double like the last one did!!

I simply love Nigel ! I keep telling the grandkids if I ever get another dog it will be a retriever like Nigel haven't had a dog for some years now just borrow my daughters and I can give him back all covered in mud :-)))

No, he properly turned his nose up at that, MD, didn't he.But, he took the apple in the trailer, did u see it?
That sounds like fun KG....be the fun person but not the ogre who baths them.

I don't believe you are old or bitter Paul ! I used to love to watch Geoff Hamilton ! Such a down to earth and funny man !

Yes, I watched a bit when he did GW....I can even remember when I was a kid/teenager, Percy Thrower doing it with his pipe in his mouth. But, although, I like Momty, Alan Titchmarsh is my favoutirte gardening presenter...him and Christine Walkden.I didn't think Toby Buckland did a lot of the program e when he presented it. Joe swift, I like too!

Definitely Alan ! My absolute favourite ! I saw him once at the GW show at the NEC. Didn't get to talk to him though !
I also like Christine , but found Toby quite boring !

i used to like alan titchmarsh, but feel that he used gardener's world for his own end

Well, yes, he's all over everything now but, he has a great style .I didn't, however, like his chat show,....found it all a bit awkward and contrived on the few occasions I saw a bit of it!
