Monty Don's New Programme(or repeated, it would seem)

‘Big Dreams Small Spaces’
As I’m ‘crocked’ at the moment with a really bad back, legs etc etc, I’m watching more TV as I can’t get out much.Well, I got out to go to the Osteopath this morning who managed to squeeze me in, and, thank goodness he did. I couldn’t straighten or get out of a chair etc yesterday, without a lot of help and a real struggle. And he, Phil my Osteopath, told me my pelvis was very badly twisted out of position.I’d done this last year too but not as badly. Well, he’s straightened me up,(my left foot was about 4 inches lower than right) but I will need to rest a lot.
So, I switched on the TV and was delighted to see a new Monty Don series on BBC2. It followed two couples who had plans to renovate and completely change their gardens. They were very hands on, not a makeover type programme where the tv company bring a crew in.Monty just advised.
I, unfortunately, didn’t know it was on so missed the first 20 minutes or so,but, really enjoyed what I saw. The two gardens were very diverse so,I’m sure the 5 episodes will give something for everyone. Can’t wait for it to appear on iplayer so I can see the first 20 minutes.
It’s a good watch!

Happy Gardening
Paul

I'm sorry to hear you're not well Paul. I hope you'll be back to normal soon. I know what it's like because I've had something similar myself several times :((

I didn't see the prog. I may try to watch the next one if I can, but I find Monty Don rather a miserable man.

Oh dear Paul you will have to take it easy.
Just look at the garden and stop yourself doing a thing.

I did see these programmes earlier in the year and really enjoyed most of them! You will recognise the ones that I didn't like when you get to them!!

Get better soon.

Really Hywell...I very much like Monty...straight talking and knowledgeable although, to be honest I like most garden presenters with the exception of Carol Klein...I find her too blowsy and over the top for my liking although she is very knowLed gable.
I hadn't realsied at first that these were reruns Wildrose but someone else told me on another site earlier.I don't usually see daytime programmes but as I said I'm crocked at the moment.
Have lived with a bad back for over 30 years but it's only in the last 10/12 months that this problem with my pelvis had happened so severely.just hope it doesn't get any worse or more frequent or it may be difficult to continue doing a physical job(gardening)

Yes I agree, Monty is straight talking and knowledgeable ... but he is dry and miserable.
I like Carol Klein :) lol she has a bright and sunny personality ...
There you are - we all take to different types.

Yes....I read one of her books and thoroughly enjoyed it but find myself turning the tv off as she's too over the top for me. Of the female gardening presenters, it's Christine Walkden for me every Time!

Programmes are repeats - shown a couple of months ago (October?). There was quite a long chat on GOY at the time (can't remember who started it).

I like Christine Walkden also. She's very 'down to earth' ...
I don't remember the long chat about the programme on here. I must have missed that.

I also thought Monty was good in this series, much more cheerful than he normally is,and he didn't try to take over, like some do on garden makeovers..I love Christine too..my absolute favourite female Gardener..I'm sorry to hear you are suffering Paul..and hope you are up and about again soon..just chill out and watch all the series..they are great :o)

Wildrose posted a blog on 21 October titled 'Big dreams, small spaces' ... quite a few interesting comments from GoY members.

When I recently read books by both Carol Klein and Christine Walkden I could hear their voices inside my head saying every word! I loved the programme Christine did from her own home a few years ago, she is great!
It was my blog about the Monty Don programme so do have a look! It caused quite a diverse reaction!

Oh, I really enjoyed it again today?i shall find your blog!

If Christine is the same lady who did the gardening programme just recently and landed in a garden by helicopter, then I too thinks she's brilliant ! I wasn't sure about Monty Don as I was a big Geoff Hamilton and then Alan Titchmarsh fan, but after my husband had bought me Monty Don's book, I then saw him in a different light. He had a time when he was struggling and ill ! But....although I like him, he sometimes is a bit boring !
I hope you start to feel better soon . Stick to your tv watching until you are fit again !

Yes Rose.....that's Christine Walkden...great fun and knows her gardening.I loved her programme a few years ago which featured, also, her elderly neighbour (reg or sid, can't remember his name) it was really 'down to earth' gardening with down to earth people.twas lovely!
I was feeling a lot better this morning so went for a fairly long bike ride and was fine but just as I got home,my front wheel slipped on something and I twisted myself up and so now I feel like I'm back to square one.

It was Reg,Paul..I loved that series, and wish they would do a double act again..so down to earth and funny :o)

Well Paul , what are you like ? Hold the exercise and allow yourself to heal ! Hope that it is better soon .
I love that Christine too , not too fond of the other two , but I love gardening progs in general .
I missed that one of Christine's , perhaps they will repeat it (hopefully).

It was a few years ago now Driad.
Yes, too much dancing last night, too......in pain this am!!

1 Jan, 2015

I hope that there was some mild anaesthetic taken at the time , Paul ?

1 Jan, 2015

Oh dear Paul ! I think you should have stayed home in the warm !

1 Jan, 2015

Not enough to anaesthetise, Driad...I was driving.not really a drinker...more of a dancer.but, drinking is probably less painful!
Maybe, with hindsight, rose, your right!
