Hi Finaghy, I live in Fl, USA. I grow beautiful sunflowers, the problem is when they are gone, they are gone. The bottom leaves will turn brown when the energy is going into the flower. Most of mine were about 5-6 feet tall (they are all gone now except for a couple of holdouts that are about 2 feet tall and have tiny flowers). Give them a bit more time for flowering if you are in a northern climate. I don't remember them needing a lot of water but certainly enough. If you check out my site I have pics of the sunflowers, and the icon by my name is my biggest one, it was 12" across. Pat
On question - do sunflowers need lots of water...
I will certainly not miss the next flower show in Florida if they are growing these now!!!!

I am laughing! A language barrier between English speaking friends. I am going to visit my daughter & her family in Jacksonville tomorrow (she has twin boys turning 7 in a week), will spend the night at the beach and then go to a swim meet the boys are in Sat a.m. then back home. But I will get that pic of my bird table. It is up on tall poles, our son made it for us. My owl came back tonight! Have a good Friday and I will be back with you soon. Pat Fluff, I don't know about sunflowers. I planted about 50 seeds and got about 30 plants so.... try again! they are magnificent.

Raquel! I just posted to your 2008 picture of the cardinal. I thought you were in the UK. I live in Florida. The aqua globes are beautiful. I never thought to get them for my porch plants, they would be lovely. I gave several to daughters in law and daughters for Christmas. Guess I will splurge on us now. Pat

Hi from Fl, USA. Are cardinals unusual in the UK? We have beautiful ones here in our yard. I may still have a picture of one I got feeding. We have 2 males, 3 females, and every once in a while discover a group of youngsters. They are my husbands favorite birds!
On blog - Birdies!
Well then, I have one! My son made it for me. I will get a picture of it for you. I will just call it a bird table from now on. LOL Pat

How I miss the north! Moved from NY to Florida 30 years ago. The beautfiul robins are here 3 days, twice a year. Once on their way south, and again on their way back north. But they bring back lovely memories for me.

Thanks! I have enough trees and it will be fun to get my pics. As I said I also enjoy photography and scrapbooking and especially love doing plant life and birds. Have a great day both of you. PS: what is a bird table? Is it exactly what it sounds like? I have birdfeeder all over but a low table might be just a bit too enticing for DC (my cat)

Thanks Jacque! my hawks do not bother my birds. In fact our Daddy bluebird actually chases the hawks away if they Dare1!! to land on top of their house.

Yummo!!! I love salmon. My husband is a meat and potato kind of guy but we have learned to compromise: so tonight salmon with pesto and I will make him french fries! while I will have buttered pasta. Thanks for my dinner plan. PS: my pesto looks and tastes great.
On question - Basil, black spots?
Oh my gosh, no I do not like the picture!!! LOL But I do like that you are from NC! This is the greatest website ever, I am from Florida and feel right at home here since I joined about 1 week ago. It is not as ugly as our tomato worms, the green ones that look like a tomato stalk? 3-4" long. Eat the leaves off one plant overnight (they don't seem to like the tomatoes, they just taste them. Have good evening!

Hi Lisann! I am also in the USA, in Florida. And I found the knock-out roses this year. They are beautiful and I don't have to fight Florida weather or bugs to keep them looking wonderful. It was recommended I plant mint in the same area as they keep out most bugs, I happen to have Chocolate Mint and no bugs. Don't know if that might help with Forsythia. But be careful, mint thinks it owns the world.

Thanks! I sure didn't want to lose this plant. I am making some Pesto today for the very first time. Don't even know how to use it LOL but know that I can freeze it and do know my daughter in law loves it.

Not an answer but a question now. I received lilies for Mom's Day. They are just "sticks" now so will snap off. They are in a pot, can they stay in the pot and will they grow next year or do they need new soil, or to be put outside? If it matters I live in Fl, USA. Thanks! Pat
On question - lillies what to do when flowers...
Thank you friends. I will now do some on line investigating and see which works for me here.
On question - Sedum good for ground cover?
It is Florida again! I have been considering sedum as a ground cover for part of my yard. Does this one stay low to the ground?

Hi! I was actually surprised to have some that did have more than one flower! They grew out of spots where leaves touched the stalk. But my favorite was a single flower, and it was 12" across! I didn't think about deadheading, will do so next year and just keep a couple with one single flower.

Our national parks are wonderful. The only sad thing is that due to the economy they are making it impossible for our kids and grandkids to see them. I will check out the kitchengardeners site. I also grow herbs and tomatoes! So that should be interesting. Have a good day!

OK! Thanks

Especiallly to Muddywellies! I am indeed happy to be sharing this with others from around the world. I have a collection of pictures of English Gardens, now honestly, is there anything more beautiful?

I will try the tomato food. And have also taken off the young seed pods to get the seeds for next year. I didn't get them all off. So will leave one with them on, and clear off the others. I do believe my lovely Morning Glory will not be back until next year. But that is something to look forward to. Thanks!

This is great!!!! I love all of you and do so enjoy being on here. I also went to Dave's Garden but found out that I had to buy a subscription to some magazine to get any communications with others. So thanks for the welcome and i will be here often. Pat from the USA
