Yet another flower which I do not know in my garden.

Hi GoY’ers especially the wildflower experts among you: well that will most likely be my friend Grannyb but Bilbobaggins might have the answer for me, well I hope she does. lol.

Spotted this growing today, only about four/5 inches high only one flower on the stalk. Leaves are opposites and in pairs and not hairy quite ovate (think that is the word) so took some pictures and am hoping that someone will be able to recognise it and name it for me please. Lovely tiny wee thing it is all on its own and I have no idea where it has come from. lol. Now there’s a surprise!!

It is very pretty, very tiny and such a beautiful colour and form, hope someone will be able to name it for me. I have trawled the internet and cannot see anything like it, again it must be something which the birds have brought in. I know I am lucky I could do with some more of these it is so sweet.

Hi! It might be some sort of Sanvitalia, most have a black centre, although some are green, it looks like my Sanvitalia Cuzco Yellow, it's also called creeping zinnia. Only a quick guess, I'm probably wrong!!

I don't know it's name Oliveoil....but I can see why you like it, it's a lovely wee thing!

Intrigued by this flower so I looked in my Wildflower book ... closest to this seems to be Chrysanthemum segetum (Corn Marigold) ... still not 100% sure though! ... :o )

Hallo Olive , I'm back from my travels and what a lovely 2 weeks we've had.A well needed break. I agree with Libet and think it does look like a sanvitallia which could have been given to you by the birds.Perhaps you'll have a better idea next year if it comes back.On another subject, I will put my Aunties poem on ,but when this lovely weather breaks.I'll let you know.

Been gardening at dads this week Olive and he has two of these growing under the birdtable, I think it must be from the birdseed as its me that puts his plants in and I have never grown any of these...

Libet, do not think it is that one as there are 13 petals on this flower, the pictures of Sanvitalia have a lot less on them but thanks for looking.

Scottish it is pretty.

Shirley again this has not got enough petals, I had looked at that one myself and thought it was very similar, thank you.

Rose - it is good to have you back from your hols, look forward to the poem, thank you.

Looked at Corn Marigold Seaburngirl, it has a lot less petals on it than this one. Thank you for looking.

Lincslass most definitely not one I have put in so must be a wild seed from the bird seed. Hope mine multiplies, it is very pretty. Thank you will keep looking and searching.

Hi Libet thanks for that, but not enough petals on it.

Thanks Scottish.

Shirley and Seaburngirl, looked at that one thought the same as you but again not enough petals on it. Thanks for your input.

Welcome home Rose, glad you have had a good time, looking forward to the poem when you have more time. thanks.

Lincslass I think they must be from the birdseed yet again, very pretty, but not one I have planted. Thank you for looking.

I am still searching girls, keep on the job for me, it has thirteen petals and very tiny, no more than about 4 inches in height. Very pretty flower now where is that Grannyb alias Bilbobaggins I bet she can find it on her sites. lol. I know she is having a well earned break so hopefully when she gets back she will get us some answers. Thanks everyone for looking.

lol!...have you had a look at the ingredients in the birdseed Mum? I don't even know if they tell you on the pack what is in them....it's very pretty but I've never seen anything like it!

Don't think it lists which seeds are in it just various seeds. It is a lovely little flower, wonder what it is. could be cannabis for all I know, oops lol you never know what you get growing in wild flowers. That reminds me of the day that we went to school to look at Sarah's books and meet teachers. We went and looked in her writing book and she had written she had been growing canabis, it was supposed to be calibrase, what a laugh. she has never lived it down. Teacher never said a word, we still chuckle about it now. she was only 6/7

Nice one!! lol!! That has so made me laugh!!

2 Oct, 2011

We laughed all the way home Karen, very funny, made even more funny by the fact that the teacher never said a word. lol.

Think all teachers should write books on the things kids write and say, they are so funny.

2 Oct, 2011

Yes...they would be good!

Thank you Tommy will look as soon as I have finished thank you for your looking.

7 Oct, 2011

Tommy - have looked at it and it says grows to 10 inches this one is only very very tiny no more than 4 inches in height do you think it is the same one, it looks like it though but much much shorter. Thank you again.

Hi Bilbo, hope you are well, I have looked at the website Tommyshort1 says but I am not convinced, this one is only 4 inches or so tall and the website says it grows to 10-12 inches. Maybe it is because it is a new plant though, still not too sure about that. Will see if I can save some seed from it, but the wind is knocking stuff about something awful and I am afraid this little fellow is getting a bit bashed about. I will see if it is a possibility.

7 Oct, 2011

Yes and me too Bilbo. Strange isn't it.
