Autumns coming

I have just recently joined the GOY site and I would firstly like to thank all the people who have given me such a warm welcome and kind comments on my pictures.
I am still finding my way around the site but have been impressed enough to pass on the details to friends and relatives. I am sure in the coming months I will be asking for help and information in order to improve on my garden.

I use a fairly common sense approach to gardening, particularly to the creation and design. I first have the idea which is then drawn to paper, usually A3 size, then after several weeks of planning, re-drawing and re-planning I am in ready to start.

Now for the start of the Autumn work:
For instance, as previously mentioned, I have plans for the front of the west facing house which, apart from painting the front door a Cornflower blue, includes taking up the current shrubs and possibly laying stones with small paving slabs placed and spaced out, upon which I intend to put potted plants and shrubs. The scheme also includes a two seater garden bench. So far I have drawn up a loose plan and taken up the shrubs (which were struggling) and have started to level off the soil. So far so good….need to start looking at pots and plants……not in any hurry as long as it is ready by Spring next year.. will update as it happens.

I have a spot in the back garden which is about three foot deep and eight foot long and which following a suggestion from my daughter to grow lettuce may be dug over and a few vegetables grown….advice welcome

Good luck with your designing. I hope it works out for you. Every time I've tried drawing a plan it always comes out different so I tend to make it up as I go along. Hopefully you're better at it. It will be interesting to see how you develope it.

I'm not too good at making plans and sticking to them either Hywel, the plants often have other ideas!
Welcome from me too and good luck with the project oldenhappy, don't forget to take photos along the way so we can see how it all took shape.

Welcome from me too oldenhappy. You sound so organized. Do you usually stick to your plans or tweak things along the way?
Yes, do take some photos because we will all be really interested to see how its coming along etc. Like recently Buttybabe has made a pond with waterfall and fountain, and we have seen it all come to fruition, from a plan to the real thing. I've been so interested in every step of it.
Anyway happy gardening.

P.S. I've just read your Profile, and I love your perfect idea of a happy retirement, enjoying the evening sun with someone else, and a glass of wine, sitting in the garden.

No I'm not much good at plans - great ideas but when it comes down to it I'm too soft and think I'll give that plant go or someone gives me a cutting and I'll just pop it in that space and before you know it they are huge and I've got to dig them out!!!
