New girl

We have recently moved into our house that we bought 3 years ago with the intention of “updating” it ready for our retirement. We have moved from Essex to Herefordshire and have acquired a lovely garden that has a veg plot and greenhouse at the very end of the garden and are now looking forward to getting our hands dirty in the garden. We are new to gardening and are very excited as we have just ordered loads of seeds for our veg plot and cannot wait for their arrival. Our garden is south facing and the soil seems to be good. We have dug in loads of “muck” and have 4 compost bins at the rear of the garden. We have already planted a Victoria Plum tree, a blueberry bush and cherry tree.

In the greenhouse we have potted up some broad beans and every day I just have to pop in to make sure they are OK and have a chat with them. What must our neighbours think! Then again I have noticed they are very keen gardeners themself so maybe they chat to their plants as well.

Hi, you should all be chatting to each other over the garden fence. Then you'll discover what grows well or not so well in the area (you might even get some plants - who knows?)

It all sounds very exciting - and the best part of retirement is having TIME to talk to your plants - and to get to know your neighbours! I do wish you good luck with your new garden, you have certainly chosen a beautiful part of the country to retire to!

Good luck with your new garden New Girl. When I moved into my new home I found my gardening neighbors quite eager to share some of their plants.
