2 years ago I dried and planted the seeds from a single bloom. Last year I had some foliage but no flowers. Hundreds of bulbs developed. The larger bulbs produced flowers this year. Last years smaller bulbs are now the same size as this years larger/flowering ones.

I am hoping for greater success next year.

Strawberries are good value and if grown in upright strawberry planters take up less room.

Lilies need a rest period after flowering, so gradually withhold water until the leaves die back and let plants rest for 2 to 3 months before resuming watering to encourage new growth.

Calla Lilies need to be planted deeply for their size. Plant them at a depth of 4 inches, spacing each bulb 12 inches apart. In cooler zones, start bulbs indoors in late winter and transplant them in the spring when danger of frost has passed. Apply a bulb fertilizer monthly during the active growing season. Calla Lillies can also be grown as house plants if placed in a sunny window.

apple trees dont take up that much room. I have two fastigiate ones (grow straight up instead of spreading) that crop very well. My sister also has a small tree that has had 3 types grafted on to one root stock. This is called a family tree and you get 3 different types of apples on one tree.
I also have two blueberries in pots. Your local garden centre (if a good one) should be able to identify loads for you.

I think you get a lot of fruit on blackcurrants for the space they take up if you like them. Im growing blueberries and dwarf apple trees in pots with strawberries around them but i must admit im a long way from making any jam. I think it takes time (years) untill you get plentyfull fruit. I have heard that gooseberries give pounds of fruit but ive had mine 2 years and fruit aint plentifull yet. I also think it depends where you live. I live in scotland and the thing growing best for me so far is blackcurrants. I will be intersted to hear what others say as i also want to grow plentifull fruit!

I have some huge sunflowers. The biggest ones are those from yellow ones. I have others that I have grown from red sunflowers and these are a bit smaller. They are growing in sandy soil which has been improved in the past. We get a lot of sun and I guess this is one of the keys.

Well, like many other plants/bulbs/flowers this may well be poisonous if anybody ate it. However, I believe that children should be taught NOT to eat anything in the garden unless Mum or Dad says they can. Animals are very unlikely to dig up the bulb. If you excluded all potentially harnful plants etc you would only be growing a handful in your garden!!!! So don't worry about it, Neil.

I grew cherry tomatoes in hanging baskets just outside my kitchen door several years ago and very successful it was. Lovely to be able to reach out from the kitchen to add taste and colour to my salads! You will find the plants will hang down naturally with the weight of the growing fruit and, if they are firmly rooted, should have no problems. Enjoy!
