A Winter Walk
Posted on 15 Jan, 2009 16 comments
After all the dreadful snowfalls we had during December and the cold I had that took two weeks to shake off we had the promise of a lovely bright day, so we filled our rukkies with waterproofs, a flask of soup, water and the last two chocolate brownies from the cake tin, brushed the cobwebs off our walking boots and went for a walk on the mountain opposite, being able to look across to our village.

Along the way it was lovely to see the hellebores gearing up for an early Spring.
I also saw this little beauty – no idea what it is! Guesses anyone?
We were walking for about 4 hours in all, finally being rewarded with this wonderful view of the higher peaks with their snow caps.

Wonderful to be outdoors again and to be getting some much needed exercise.

The leaves and fan-like shape put me in mind of Libertia. Do they grow in your neck of the woods? What beautiful scenery you live in.

Thanks for all your comments. I still pinch myself every morning to make sure I'm not just dreaming that I live here!
Dawn, the mountain range is the Picos de Europa which is part of the Cordillera Cantabrica range running almost parallel to, and about 25 kms from, the northern coast, We just call it Paradise.

Nariz, this sounds wonderful. Your neighbourhood is simply beautiful; Reading your blog it sounds like you are two fit people, climbing mountains, even just walking uphill requires quite some fitness. Great to be able to do that, especially after being cooped up at home with the flu and snow around.
