Roses

This year seems to be a bumper year for my roses – helped, no doubt, by the liberal digging in of sheep manure from the corral next door! I’m not sure of the variety of some of them – horticultural Spaniards seem to think the name of any plant is unnecessary, but some I brought back from Britain or had delivered and can at least identify them correctly.

The next is ‘Crimson Cascade.’ What a beauty!

‘New Dawn’ is thinking about showing herself:

but ‘Phyllis Bide’ beat her to it!

Two ‘un-named’ beauties:

I think of all the flowers we have in our gardens, roses ‘deliver’ the most, don’t you? Thanks for viewing.

What a lovely show, Nariz. I love the first one in particular, but as you say plant names/labels ( even price tags) are a bit thin on the ground there ....... Never mind, they're beautiful whatever they are called.

Wonderful, wonderful roses, Nariz - what are you feeding them? They just seem to thrive on a bit of warmth, don't they?

How beautiful they all are :) Your garden is lovely :)))

I love your wall and those little niches with a pot in. I have taken a note of Phyllis, she looks happy in her pot.

Oh, they are all so lovely, Nariz...sparkling in the sunshine!
Roses are about the only plant that gets its full handle here in France...everything else is just a "whatever".

Wow amazing Nariz what a lovely collection you have!

They're beautiful aren't they. You've got a nice selection there. Pitty you don't know all their names, but I think they are just as beautiful without them...

I like them best when they're in bud, and they've got such a lovely scent aswell. I used to dislike them and had none in my garden, but over the years I have changed my mind. I've now got lots and wouldn't be without them.

I won't mention their sharp thorns ;o))

Thanks for your all your lovely comments!
Gattina: They're fed on sheep poo - we have access to mounds of the stuff!
Pimpernel: Yes, the wall is lovely isn't it. I love the use of rocks in this region. The 'windows' in the wall are perfect perching places for Blackbirds who have their eyes on our grapes! 'Phyllis Bide' was advised to me by a rose grower on the Costa Blanca when I asked what climber I could grow in my large tub.
Hywel: I'm covered in scratches from the darn things, but I wouldn't be without them. :o)

But it's worth a few scratches in order to have such beautiful flowers, and wonderful scent :o)

I endorse that!

Yup - fine as always! Gearing up for visitors next week, then four more two weeks after, the village will be heaving with tourists during August - then we'll be screaming for peace and quiet and disappearing off into the mountains. Dont be TOO busy - sit and enjoy for a while. ;o)

I found the name of that Climber I couldn't remember Nariz, - Rose 'Zephirine Drouhin', - which I bought online from Whitehill Nurseries in Whitchurch, (don't know which county that's in!!). I said it had a 'Z' in the name!!!;)
Sounds like you have found your paradise, & such beautiful roses, I didn't know they would grow so well in Spain! Shows what I know!!

In this region they seem to be quite prolific, Shirl, along with the constant balcony displays of pelargoniums. I don't think they do too well in the hotter southern regions.
