I’ve just got back from RHS Spring Show and AGS London Show…..

From RHS Spring Show…..

Helleborus hybrid “Blue Lady”

Various Sempervivums

Iris “Frank Elder”

Various Hyacinths

And from AGS London show

AGS display

Corydalis solida “Beth Evans”

Corydalis solida “Fire Bird”

Dionysia hybrid

Dionysia “curviflora x tapetodes”

Iris winogradowii

Saxifraga “Pablo Picasso”

Various saxifragas

Tulipa neustruevae

Although there weren’t any sale stalls at AGS show (which is a shame), I purchased a couple of seeds. I don’t know when they were collected so might not germinate, but well…..I’ll just have a fun with these!

Now it’s time for beddy bye……zzzz…….

Nice plants and nicve pictures, naoto. From the AGS I would expect that your seeds were collected in 2012 so will be as fresh as any you can get at the moment.

Thank you for all of your comments!

I am now more interested in growing saxifraga and dionysia, but unfortunately I can't find any nurseries that sell these in London area, so I'll need to go to these occasions more......

@Bulbaholic
Thanks for your information - I was a bit worried that the seeds might have been a bit old but I'll have a bash! :-)

The specialist societies don't have the facilities or space to keep seeds for long, Naoto. The seeds are submitted by members in late summer, distributed in January and the surplus goes to the shows. Hopefully, some of the bulk packets can be sold to a dealer. At the end of the following summer all the remaining seed is incinerated.
One of the best nurseries for saxifraga and dionysia in Aberconway Nursery in north Wales. They don't do mail order or seem to have their own web page but they do visit many of the shows. it would be worth your while to telephone them, 01492 580875, and ask what shows they are visiting in your area.

@Bulbaholic
Thank you very much for your very helpful information. If I had known, I think I would have bought more seeds on that day! I soaked these seeds overnight then I sowed today (except the helleborus).

I've checked the AGS site and I think I possibly could make a journey to the show in Harlow next time - I think this is the best option from London area. And I'll ask Aberconway Nursery if they come to the show, too.

I managed to obtain Dionysia aretioides "Phyllis Carter" from the seller at Fritillaria show in Wisely two weeks ago, but still touch and go.....
