Hello all, I hope you have had as beautiful a day where you are as we have here.

I managed to make a planter which I wanted to put my umbrella and stand in to weigh it down so that it wouldn’t keep blowing over and landing on my plants. ( Sod’s Law it always did ) .

I had 3 decking panels left that were originally going to be another window box but alas never happened. I worked out how big to make it so that the base would fit and I had bought an iron plant pot stand with wheels to stand it on as I would need to move the brolly about for shade.. wishful thinking I hear you say lol.

Lots of measuring , sawing and hammering and the planter took shape…luckily I didn’t make any mistakes !

I managed to fix the pot stand to the base then painted the planter inside and out. I’m planning to put some sand or pebbles in the base of it to weigh it down and perhaps put a few plants in too.

I just hope after all that ,it keeps upright in the winds.:-)

Well done nanjo, i have really heavy bases for my parasols and the winds still take them over sometimes, i take them out and lie them down as they have caused a lot of damage in the past. Stupid things lol..

These umbrellas can cause some damage!! Looks like you've given this plenty of thought - good luck with it.

What a neat job! Hope it works well for you. Otherwise have you thought of guy ropes, lol?

Well we have had really strong winds today and it is still upright ( I haven't opened the brolly yet tho'). I am hanging fire with putting the 'balast' in as the brolly is very tatty and i've mended broken spokes etc , I can't turn the screw to remove it from the base so I will need to replace the base as well as the brolly.
I'm pleased that you think it's a good idea, I had tried to get a pot to fit the base but they were all too narrow.
I'd not thought of guy ropes Stera...will keep that idea in mind :-)
Thanks to you all for your lovely comments..
