Front garden

I decided to do a make-over on my front gdn in 2010, it was overgrown and after I got new neighbours ( who were really into their garden and home ) I felt it was time. I didn’t want to let the side down now did I ?
I decided to gravel as it’s not a very large area and of course it’s a lot easier to manage, giving me more time for the back garden.
Then it was the decision as to what kind of gravel, my neighbour the other side had large pale coloured gravel but I wanted something a bit different ( I didn’t want to copy ! ) I decided on Cotswold chippings, a bit more expensive than gravel but very nice and as the bungalow is Cotswold type stone I thought it would blend very well.
The day that we started it it kept raining on and off so we spent quite a bit of time sheltering under the front porch. After laying the weed suppressant the OH ferried the stone from the car park in front of the bungalow and I spread it out. It didn’t take too long at all and it was such a transformation. I was careful to tell him about the dangers of leaving a rake where it could be trod on ( he was not a gardener) so what did I do ? You guessed ! I trod on the prongs as the rake was leaning against the fence…it hit me on the forehead and BOY did that hurt !!I didn’t tell him for quite a while after and I had an almighty lump. I sported a massive black eye for quite a few weeks ….

I think it was worth the black eye in the end…..

Looks great. Sorry to hear about your mishap, but I'm sure you will enjoy this for years to come, so it will all have been worth it. I do completely understand re the rake ..... many years ago, I scrubbed the wooden stairway leading up to our bedrooms, & standing at the top, called down to my nine year old son not to walk up the stairs until they were dry, as they would be slippery. His head appeared around the door, & as I was still giving him the warning, without thinking I took a step down towards him, slipped on the step & tumbled right down to the bottom, where I lay sprawled in a bruised & shaking heap at his feet ..... & all he could do was laugh!

Thanks all, glad you like it. I do seem a bit accident prone in my old age Terra...4 months after the rake incident I took a short cut by stepping over the low fence to save me going all the way around to the front path. As there is a slight drop in the level of the stones I lost my balance and caught the front of my leg on the top of the fence. The pain was excruciating and I couldn't get up for a few mins - I was laying on the stones hidden by the shrubs so no one could see me. I felt a right odiot ! I managed to carry on with what I was doing then hobbled indoors, I was in so much pain and couldn't walk so had to go on all fours around the bungalow. My leg swelled up and my daughter had to take me to the hospital the next day, turned out to be a hematoma - spent 6wks off work and walked with a crutch and had strong painkillers which hardly touched the pain. Needless to say I don't take the short cuts anymore !! lol

I do sympathise Dwillis, I don't know about you but seeing these 'accidents' on the tv progs I can't help but laugh ! It's ok if no one actually gets hurt ! :)) Pity they weren't filmed, we could have made a few bob. lol
