Ringworm, Bug and Mosaic Disaster

Off of work and feeling sorry for myself went to Dr No 1 (who didn’t go to charm school) and without looking really.. said I had eczema also I told him I was worried about a thing on my leg that had grown and I didn’t like the look of, with a look of disdain he and saying it is most probably benign but begrudgingly he would book me in to see the dermatologist, of I trot to get betnovate this was over a week ago. Wednesday this week went to Dr No 2 (his brother who did go to charm school) as the rash definitely didn’t look like eczema and seemed to be spreading and a lot worse he seems to think it is ringworm so I’m now using different cream and hopefully it will get better, you get ringworm which isn’t a worm from and airborne virus or a dog that has it so that made me feel a whole lot better!. So yesterday woke up and felt dreadful headache and temperature got a bug on top of everything else.

NOW on to the mosaic……………………….have definitely learnt a few things with this one :-

1. Don’t make your background too busy as it detracts from the main subject
2. Try and use the same height tiles

3. Don’t put a triangular shaped tile near the top of your main subject’s head cos it looks like a conehead!
4. It is quite easy to get rid of bits that you don’t like with a hammer and chisel

5. Don’t listen to other half when he says that grip fill will be better than tile adhesive
6. Remember what ratio the grout colour mix is if you have to re do parts but I guess if you take note of point 1 and 2 you won’t get into using tip 3

7. Move onto your next piece stoically but try and avoid wings:)
Moan over you can all sigh a sigh of relief…… took some pictures the other day of my clematis and another one of my Canna that is still going strong.

The sun is shining so I am going to look on the net and see if I can sit in the sun with my ringworm as company!

i admire you for being able to learn from each experience ~ i thought it looked very attractive ~ i can see what you mean about the busy background but then its probably a busy bee!!!

Yes definitely learnt a lot still going to put it in the garden but most probably in a dark corner lol!

30 Sep, 2011

LOL, sorry Nana, I had to laugh :)
You are much more particular than I am!! Hammer and chisel??? Seeing the difference though was worth it. Looks great!
What's your next project to be then?

Sorry about the ringworm! Hope you're feeling better soon!

Love your mosaic, will this be the first of many? Also that is a nice pic. of your garden. Hope RW gets better, i had it once, was told not to get it wet and it was on the side of my hand!!! Couldnt wash for a fortnight Lol.

Hi Lil, definitely not happy with it but I have learnt loads:) I love the artist Gustov Klimt and have a lot of his pictures in my hall so I fancied doing an abstract a big eye most probably with a Klimty style background.

30 Sep, 2011

I think going abstract is sooooo much easier! Without the skill of Lulu, it's hard and frustrating. With a 'general' idea, slap down the pieces and leave it up to each individuals interpetation. Amazing how we can look at the same piece yet see it differently.

30 Sep, 2011

I think you are right Lil.....but I also think the bee looks really pretty Nana! Thanks for putting this on. I am struggling to work out how I am going to do my seaglass mosaic. I have the design in mind, but the pieces are all different thickness, so I think I shall have to set them in to plaster rather than glue and grout. Trouble is plaster of paris sets fast...any ideas ladies?

30 Sep, 2011

NOOOOOOOOO KS!!!! Not plaster of paris! That was my 1st attempt and it ended up in the trash. Lulu could address this better than I.
With regards to sea glass, I think this would be incredibly difficult due to the huge differences in height. I have some pieces but have not used them yet. I think for your 1st attempt, you should keep it as simple as possible. Only my opinion. Again, Lulu would be the one to comment.

I ALSO think the bee looks nice. Sorry if it sounded like I didn't :(

30 Sep, 2011

Ha ha Lil like the slap down the pieces:) still not sure about what adhesive is best I can get that one you use what consistancy is it? Agree with you re looking at the same piece differently. Thank you Grandmage for your lovely comment. Did your RW go after a couple of weeks? If so thats sounds promising:)

30 Sep, 2011

Mine comes out of a tube and I am still investigating finding the best one to use.
Off now as the day is a wasting! See you later :)

30 Sep, 2011

Hi Karen Lulu uses weatherproof PVA for all her work inside and outside pieces. The external tile adhesive would work cos you could put it on thick then press the seaglass in depending on thickness? Thanks for your lovely comment The bee and the background look OK'ish separately not together but looking back on Lulu's blog I see now that she did put about not having the background too bold.....see my teacher was right not enough concentration and seems to skip important information lol! Problem was I had the pink and blue tiles and immediately thought of hydrangea then bee on a hydrangea just should have gone for the pale green and cream type of hydrangea:) Hi Lil have you started you second Coi piece yet??

30 Sep, 2011

Hope youre feeling better Nana!
Lovely mosaic and good advice too :)
SUn is shining here to my sweating! P:))))))))))))

30 Sep, 2011

Oh Nana you are talking about mosaic art today. I am not totally illiterate but my knowledge and understanding of mosaic art is the same as your understanding and the launching of a satellite. Unless you know that too!
You could be the female Ed Chapman. Who knows?
Poor me.

30 Sep, 2011

Thanks Pixi, feeling a lot better bug wise but still not good on RW front if it is that but I have gone outside in the sunshine because a few websites say the sun is good for it:) Ah Costas you make me smile how are your roses??

30 Sep, 2011

Hi Nana, yes it did go in about 2/3 weeks, had to wash my hair one handed (and all the other bits too) Lol.!! think the scarring stayed for quite a while

30 Sep, 2011

Thanks Nana and Lil. I have put the pieces on a wooden board, and actually it is quite flat, so I will go for pva and grout as Lulu suggested Nana! Just have to get a piece of board and off I go! :) thanks!

Brilliant news Karen good luck I'm having a break from mosaicing for a few days as I am not feeling 100% but ideas are buzzing round my head gonna use slate for the next one:)

30 Sep, 2011

Hi Grandmage, thought it might scar ..oh well it will add to my character:)

30 Sep, 2011

Maybe buy some Bio-oil, very good if you have scarring, like poc marks or blobby injection marks, also stretch marks lol.!!

30 Sep, 2011

Yes, do! Bio Oil is fab. My son used it on his scar when he had the accident with the Axe and it really helped to close the wound. I don't think he's bothered with it lately, which is a pity as I'm sure it is excellent for fading scars.

30 Sep, 2011

Hi Grandmage/Karen got some bought some when I burnt my right boob with cooking fat putting roast potatoes in the pan ....but that's another story! also used it when I had a couple of ops a few years back fabulous stuff. Once the infection has gone I shall slap some on:)

30 Sep, 2011

Hope mine are too..it was unbearable pain!

30 Sep, 2011

Didn't know you had them too - yes really bad - couldn't sit still with pain

30 Sep, 2011

Oh not good kidney stones Paul my ex hubby had them used to really worry me glad you are OK now and you Pixi. Yes I didn't like it at all .....the mosaic that is but I tried to sort it out with the chisel and hammer. Still not right but know where I went wrong so that is a good learning curve.

30 Sep, 2011

I'm finding I learn something new with every one I do Nana. As you say, learning curve :)

30 Sep, 2011

Sorry to hear about your leg. I hope it gets better soon. I've never heard of a ring worm. It sounds horrible !

Great mosaic. I liked tip no 5 lol :o) Isn't it nice to be creative :o))

Love your yellow Clematis. Is it tangutica ? I used to have it when I lived in the old cottage. It was too big to bring up here ...

Hope the RW goes soon - aren't some Drs awful? If they have that attitude towards their patients - why are they in that particular line of work???????

Love your mosaic. I can see a whole new section springing up on GoY - MoY?

:)))))))))))

1 Oct, 2011

Hi Hywel, RW seems to be clearing up going to paint the fence in a mo OH repaired and strengthened it so I am going to paint it before it gets too hot then go in the sunshine to help the RW healing process. My clematis is a mans name but it escapes me something like Bill McKensie?? Love being creative but not the hammer and chisel bit lol!

Thanks Nariz, strange how two brothers (dr's) could be so different will not go to Dr John anymore Dr Adrian is very so nice weird to think they came from the same mother! Ha ha love your idea of MOY:)

1 Oct, 2011

i often think siblings are affected by the other's character, having worked in schools and seen lots of brothers, sisters, twins etc ~ sometimes if one is nasty the other seems particularly nice ~ lots of reasons why that could be!!!!

1 Oct, 2011

I had a great big giggle, no laugh out loud! Bless you!!
Oh goodness where do I start!
1....I got lots of mosaics with cone or cigar shapes in all the wrong places!
2 I ALWAYS manage to use different thickness glass!
3 Never listen to other halves, they always think they know better when they don't!
4 I have NEVER dared to take a hammer and chissel to a mosaic!
I have done a huge horses head, did him last year at great expense in glass. i hate him and call him 'Horrible Henry'. The head is all wrong and I don't know quite what to do with it...........maybe a hammer and chissel!

Moy, Nariz, that's funny and as for burnt boobs, that's not!
