Up until a last year roses hadn’t appealed to me but as I am getting more into gardening I am falling in love with them really looking forward to seeing the Etoile de Hollande grow up the trellis. So Norman Vaughn was right roses do grow on you:) To all young members of GOY who do not know who or what I am talking about I apologise!

Lovely roses. I am a rose lover myself and I have been growing roses for many years. I used to be a member of the Royal National Rose Society and visited their rose garden near St. Albans many-many times. Just one warning. Roses are very prone to disease. I hope you are able to keep them healthy and enjoy them for many years.
You may see more than a hundred pictures taken by myself during my last week's visit there in my hobby website. Web address is shown in my profile.

I love roses and have had to restock my garden after returning to live in the UK last July. However, they are in large pots until we have finished building works later this year and then hopefully in October, will go into their final flowering places ready for a spectacular show next year.

All of my main roses are from David Austin, they are very healthy, disease resistant and heavily scented.

The catalogue is free from his website and I spend many happy hours thumbing through the book to select my next rose

Lavender planted amongst scented roses on a summers evening can't be beaten.

Linclass nail varnish was a complete fluke I swear:) Thanks Coshad yes I know about the problems with roses that is why I was nervous about having them I shall keep my eyes peeled for any sign of flys or disease. Hi Grannyb I have looked on that website they do look so lovely there was one climbing rose that I like called Eden Mieviolin (sorry not very good with plant names) but is was such a lovely colour cream with pink going into almost mauve tempted to get that next year:) Agnhippy thanks very much for your lovely comment on my rose and on my before and after pics.

Hi Nana d glad your getting to like your roses. I started buying them a couple of years ago and as you can imagine living not to far from the David Austin rose nursery its very hard for me not to go overboard. I think my favourite so far is Aloha a short climber with a divine purfume. My last purchase was `Malvern Hills` that makes number 21 so as you can see I think I`m addicted.

Hi Stroller

That is a lot of roses, my garden is fairly small so I might not be able to fit too many more in but I am sure I will give it my best shot:)

Nice to see you have come to like roses. I was the same - got rid of them all from a previous garden, and then bought some more after I came to like them.

Hi Nann d, I have just bought another rose, it's so hard not too once you get the bug. I like you have only a small garden so I fear "Charles Darwen" will have to be the last, at least for a while. I also bought several other plants to go with them. "Hermercallis - Gentle Shepherd" being one that was suggested in last weeks Amateur Gardening, never grown them before so will have to wait and see how they get on.

gardening mags are just as addictive as roses, but at least they don't take up so much room or need feeding and watering. Do gobble up the pennies though.

Hi Grannyb you certainly are addicted to roses I will have a look later to see what Charles Darwen looks like the rose that is lol:) My rose in the picture is fully out now but it is raining so hard here and so cold I have not been able to fully enjoy it. Hoping tomorrow will be a bit better never had rain like this in June!

Hi Skipscanda thank you for your nice comments it's strange but alot of people seem to be the same with roses until you start getting into gardening you don't get the appeal, yes that yellow one was my first rose:)
