Goodbye Jodi...

I just wanted to tell my Goy friends that this afternoon my lovely old dog Jodi passed away aged 15..
One might think old age caught up with her, but a girl who lives a couple of doors from me reversed her car out and caught Jodi on her right side…It was just an accident and the girl is heartbroken….
We rushed her to the vet and an xray showed her pelvis was broken in 2 places….she was put to sleep at 2.30pm this afternoon on the vets advice as there were other problems too…We buried her on the large ‘green’ at the front of our house under a canopy of trees because she loved that area, it was like her domain, she would walk around and bark if any other dogs came into our housing area…. My family are very upset at the loss…She was a lovely, gentle and clever girl…..

Oh M, I'm so very sorry. I know what it's like to lose a beloved dog. It's heartbreaking, like losing a child. My heart goes out to you. X

Ahhh gosh how sad for you and your neighbor. It's hard to burry them isn't it? I remember growing up in Ireland and over the years our back garden became a pet cemetery.
At least you know where Jodi is laid to rest and you can make a special place of it. So sorry.

It is so sad to lose a loved pet, hope you are feeling a little better today and remembering her as she was a lovely friendly doggy friend. My Westie is 14 and slowly getting more and more senile I know the day will come when we have to part. Sad it had to happen in the way it did hope your neighbour is able to cope with the shock of it all. Not a nice thing to happen to anyone.

Motinot I am so very sorry to read of your loss, its heartbreaking for you, your family and the poor girl who was driving, I am pleased you have Jodi close in an area that she was happy in, I know its hard at the moment but hopefully soon you will be able to think of her with gladness in your heart, remembering the happy years you all had with her, knowing she was loved and cared for and that she loved you back.
Sending a big hug xx...

We had a crossed border collie who was 17 when we had to have him put to sleep. He was a rescue dog and was approximately 10 months old when we got him. He was such a character and a lovely lad and I still miss him now. (He's been gone since 25th April 2006 at 6.30 pm and it still breaks my heart every anniversary). We were both so upset, I don't think we'll ever have another. His face looks a bit like your Jodi, except he was black and tan.

Its so sad Sheilar....The vet suggested i get another dog, said it would help my husband to get over Jodi's death...But he said no....We'll see, time, hopefully is a great healer...:>)

Thank you so much Shirley...We miss her terribly....My husband came home this evening and told me a friend offered him a 1 year old Cocker Spaniel with all its papers, free of charge...This friend goes hunting and apparently the spaniel wont hunt for him..My OH wouldnt take the dog..The vet suggested we get another dog straight away, but Its difficult.. x

Well, I'm pretty sure I couldn't take on a new dog so soon ... perhaps in time you will ... our daughter-in-law's parents have always had German hunting dogs ... one passed away a few months ago ... old age ... they have taken on a puppy GHD now as couldn't bear to have just the one dog! ... It's already being trained to be a hunting dog ... :o)

Thank you Shirley...:>)

Only just read your blog,M.So very sorry .This happened to a friend of mine recently.Everyone told her to get another dog immediately.I think it's a very personal decision.one that cannot be rushed.Hope you feel stronger soon.x

Big lump in my throat reading this...I said I would not get another after losing my 17 and 15 year olds within six months of each other. About six months later a workmate said he was taking his dog to the dogs home as no one wanted an old dog and they could not cope as they had a baby....Bruce has been living here happily for seven years soon. He is not a replacement as he has his own character.

So sorry Motinot....Remember a lot of dogs are in need of good owners like you and your husband, when and if you are ready.

Thanks for your lovely comment meadowland....and Pimpernel....I would love a rescue dog, not a puppy though....I have been gently hinting to OH about it, but he really isnt ready yet...perhaps in the Spring we'll talk about it again...Thank you...:>)
