Sad

Thanks Bamboo, after what I went through this year I have no intentions of going anywhere near stress again. I wasn't always like this but life has a way of teaching you whats important and whats just SH**

Good approach, Ian, focus on the solutions, not the fact there's a problem, much, much easier.

Lol :~))

Good on you, Ian....I learned it too....but rather too late on in life I think. Now I am on my own - there is nobody to fight with but "Me Myself and I".....LOL

No I didn't Alz, thats the point! The mirror is broken why jump up and down about it? Have a brew and sort it out, no problems!
I suffered terribly earlier this year because of stress so now I just don't do it, ever!

That sounds like a good deed well done, Ian.
I agree too....keep those greedy sods out if you can.
B unfortunate though....I bet you muttered a bit under your breath too but as that old lady of mine would also have said "smiled from the teeth forwards" !!!

Lol, the old ones are definately the best. It certainly put my stress levels at an ebb having a good sense of humour.
Yesterday (for example) the 'scrap man' was collecting on our street and I had put some things out for him, (old fan, some cables and other bits) and when he pulled past our car he ripped the wing mirror off with something that had fallen loose. He was almost hysterical, screaming abuse at the young lad up on the back of the wagon, so I offered him a coffee while we sorted out the nescesseries and he stopped looking so purple and accepted that SH** happens.
He has been to the Citroen dealers and ordered a replacement and nobody needs to get the vampires (insurence co.) involved. :~))

I had an old neighbour who died a few years ago at the ripe old age of 106.....that was one of her sayings which used to have me in stitches too!!!
Her mantra when asked at the millennium what her recipe was for her old age...."A plate of porridge for breakfast and a sense of humour for the rest of the day" Nowt much wrong with that I say!!

LMSS Alz, don't buy green bananas. That is soooo funny Lol

I once got told the same Ian....I was spending hours a week doing scans and back-ups....what a waste of time I was THEN told.....so now just let Norton do the lot...worth every penny....at my time in life you don't even buy green bananas - much less waste hours doing flamin' scans!!! LOL LOL

I'll have to have a look at that one Alz. I have 'Advanced system care' from IO bit that does spyware removal, registry fixes, privacy sweeps and junk file removals. PLUS system optimization, security defence checks, defragmentation and security analyzer automatically. When I've looked into it I seem to be over protected (if that is possible?) Lol

That is a very good free security package Ian....and very sound advice. I have always been with Norton and indeed when I got my new laptop last year - it came with a 3 year free Norton Security package which they extended to my other laptop too...free of charge. An offer I could not refuse...LOL especially as it does all the checking behind the scenes and I don't need to DO anything ..which is great. However I do also use "Crapcleaner" (yes - I know - but that IS its name !!!) and it is fantastic ...and free...and does a fast tidy up before I go off line each night too.

I use AVG Free but check for updates AND run the program EVERY day without fail. It's the only way to stay safe. I run it last thing at night when I go to bed and set it to switch my PC off when it's finished!
There are plenty of other free software packages out there that you can use but get someone 'in the know' to download them for you as this is the time that you are most likely to catch a virus. (by downloading from the wrong site! ! !)
If I was using a pc for the first time, I wouldn't even connect to the 'net until I had installed the basics and then the first site I would go to is AVG.

Never heard that Merf.....I still think it depends on your Security Prog. and how up to date it is ...and you are as a result.

When I had my Internet probelm earlier this week, my IT matey told me to get a router instead of a modem. This thing will only let in addresses that you've typed, and nothing else that may be attached to them.....apparently! We'll just have to wait and see!

You can get a virus from clicking on a link in an Email. More serious but not as offensive are the data miners that sit on your hard drive and monitor every single keystroke and use this info to get your pass words for things like your bank accounts, credit cards and all so they can send this info automatically to a server which will spit out your details to the owners who then steal your ID. They no longer target the wealthy but everyday Joe's like us! Like I said, I don't even do online banking any more! ! !

that's why I'm concerned - if you don't ever log on to porn sites, I thought it wasn't possible to pick up this kind of thing, but apparently, it is. Very unpleasant

I do know that the porn industry is the one that's triggered major advances in computer software, and that a lot of viruses are attached to various porn sites (this from my two lads, both in the computer industry), so once it gets a hold, difficult to shift, usually groundbreaking stuff with the anti virus companies playing catch up.

thanks mookins, just what i needed.

Gimp! conjures up visions immediately, what a silly name to choose. So was the porn stuff caused by a virus you picked up then?

As long as you enjoyed it! Welcome back!

not a holiday as such, doing botany work in the Malham area of the yorkshire dales. absolutely fantastic despite the cooler damper weather.

Did you have a good holiday, SBG??

glad you are back mookins. I'm back too.

God, Digger, I bet that freaked you out bigtime! Its awful to think that the freaks who generate these viruses are putting images like that out for wee kids to see!

It's funny, I used to surf all over but now it's just GoY, Freecycle and Ebay that I use. I won't even do my banking on line! ! ! We had an awful virus that got everywhere and the first I knew about it was when HOLLY asked what the man and the lady were doing? Hers isn't connected to anything now so she can't get another. Disgusting is the word that sprung to mind! ! !

Welcome back Jen :~)))

I know! Mine was down for a week! Awful!
