THE WIRE

I’m having a real problem with updating my blog page this month; I usually like to write in a way that is upbeat on livingincornwall.com, in the hope that it will make you all think what a wonderful place Cornwall is to visit, but not this time.
Something horrible has happened, thanks to Natural England, much of our beautiful wild moorland areas have been surrounded with barbed wire and cattle introduced in the name of ‘managing’ these moors.

It’s ugly, dangerous and bureaucratic – and not what nature lovers want. If any of you have been down this way and wondered what is going happening on the moors of West Penwith and the Liard, please complain to Natural England!

Surely this measure is only for as long as it takes to put right what one must guess is wrong. There must be some scientific reason for it and it would have been better if local people had been told all about it. It may well be a long-term measure for future preservation.
Isn't there anyone you could ask?

The plan by Natural England is that the wire and cattle will be 'resident' for ten years under the initial planning application. I have read a lot of the comment on the Save Penwith Moors website and it seems the expert scientific evidence points to the fact that Natural England have many question to answer regarding this policy.

Don't know enough about this perhaps its to right damage as Mad suggests? Isnt the planning application is in the public domain so nothing to stop you seeing it?

There isn't damage as such, in some places Natural England feel there is too much scrub growing and have been told by the EU to remove it; it's just nature taking its course, and nature will remedy it. Far more damage is being done by long horn and Highland cattle, churning up the ground and the risk these cattle and the wire cause is far more harmful to dogs and people using the moors - in fact, we are actually excluded because of the wire, regardless of the ugliness. And yes, the planning applications were available, public opinion just ignored!.
