My cold weather pastime.......

As much as gardening is my “Summer Love”, I hate cold weather with a passion, so found myself and indoor hobby making cards….It doesnt please all people….Ray moans about me taking over a bedroom, and my Son says I’ve joined the old ladies brigade…..Flipping cheek….so this is where I spend my days now the weather has turned….

and here are some examples of the Christmas cards I have made for this year……

I try to just make every one a litle different to the last by adding ribbon or glitter, and I love doing decoupage, but now that the post office charge postage by the depth of letters, you have to be a little bit careful or it could cost a fortune in postage, so those are kept as handouts to friends and family mostly….here’s some more….

Love those last 2, they are printed from a Thomas Kinkade winter scenes disc that i have….here’s more……

This next one is really one of my favorites…it just suggests the magic of Christmas to me…..

Then I love to do “Special’s”…for the people who are really special to me, and that includes making the boxes to put them in…..

Last, but not least, I have just been trying to master how to make pop up cards, and I think I got it……

Hope you enjoyed seeing what Im up to..Ray says I should be selling them, but once you start doing that, its no longer a hobby. I have plenty of people ask me to make cards for special occasions, which I love to do for them, and I’m happy to keep it that way…..

WOW!!!!! Milky! They are absolutely beautiful! I have zero patience at doing anything like this! Well..... then..... I used to do cross-stitch at this time of year, but even that... I have not done for a few years now:((((

25 Nov, 2010

gosh, well done-- they look so professional-- well better than that!

25 Nov, 2010

Thanks Michaella and Pam...I used to do cross stitch too, but my eyes cant cope with the minute detail anymore sadly....Lol

Wow Milky, these cards are just incredible, absolutely beautiful, you should be selling them, love your work room, reminds me of my office here, I have to work in the utility room now as my husband nearly had a fit when he walked into the kitchen and saw my stuff everywhere, all he wanted was to make a cuppa and couldn't, I am so pleased you put your cards on, thank you, they really are wonderful,

25 Nov, 2010

I agree with everyone, they are excellent, very professional

25 Nov, 2010

Milky they are really good and because you`ve made them yourself it makes them extra special to anyone lucky enough to receive one, well done....

25 Nov, 2010

i agree too, they are good and i know what you mean about the postage of bigger/heavier cards, i made some last year but gave up i think i lost patience with it.. you have mastered the art of "pop up"they look great..

25 Nov, 2010

Milky they look really professional your family and friend's are really lucky to get gorgeous cards like these I love the mouse one's and the pop up one.

Funny i've just been saying to yorkshire, that i keep saying i'm going to join a place where you can learn how to do them, and its only 10min walk from my house, so may just do it after xmas, yours look really lovely, can't see me being that good.

25 Nov, 2010

Wow.. you've been busy, Milky !
Beautiful cards...:o)))

25 Nov, 2010

I love the cards you have made, Milky! :-)) They look very professional, the sort you would find in the most expensive sections of the high Street card shops! Very well done!!! Your husband doesn't recognise your talent. That's a shame!

25 Nov, 2010

Brilliant cards Milky, love them all, clever you:-) my spare room looks a lot like yours, don't you accumulate a lot of stuff when cardmaking, any bit of ribbon or shiny bit of card has potential, lol.
Just bought myself one of the punches that you've done your fancy borders with, love it :-)

25 Nov, 2010

Thankyou all....Simbad..I know just what you mean..everything now seems to have the potential of being "stuck" on a card lol and yes you do need a lot of "stuff" otherwise you can get halfway through a card and think " I could really do with this or that".......clarice...give it a go.....its surprising how easy you can pick it up and I think you will be able to do a lot better than you think you can......

25 Nov, 2010

Milky....your talent is awesome. The designs, beautiful. I can imagine you in your "craft room" working away creating these cards which must be so treasured by family and friends.

I can imagine it would be an expensive hobby? Saving bits of materials, pictures, ribbon etc. throughout the year would make a sensible contribution to costs too. And making boxed cards is a lovely idea...even down to decorating the box! Classy :)

I'd be hard-pressed to choose a favourite from the variety of photos you've put on your blog but I do think the pointsetas look really nice with the decoupage. Do you come up with verses for the inside as well?

25 Nov, 2010

What a great thing to do - must be very satisfying to get such good results too, very creative.

25 Nov, 2010

Lovely ! It's great to have different hobbies :o)
Don't listen to the moaners. They 'd probably moan whatever you did. - So just do your own thing.
I agree you shouldn't make it into a business. That would take the enjoyment out of it.
I think they are brilliant :o)

I saw someone's craft room a few days ago. She has taken a room over for crafts, and makes mineature houses. Nobody is allowed into that room (but I was shown it lol)

25 Nov, 2010

those are really good milky, you must be such a perfectionist ~ that cutting out looks about impossible to me!
i like the look of that room you have upstairs ~ brilliant!

25 Nov, 2010

they are fantastic milky, and i know how much work goes into them as i make cards too (mine are not this good though!) and your craftroom is a lot tidier than mine!! I am more into scrapbooking though and have a few books one for each of my children and one each for my grandchildren plus an Ancestor one (i am also a family 'treer')

25 Nov, 2010

Fantastic collection of cards Maureen well done!, there seem to be quite a few of us on Goy into the card making hobby, wish my room looked as tidy as yours though, I start off organised then it quickly becomes a jumble of card, glitter pictures and trimmings and I love it, thinkl we should start a Craft group!!

25 Nov, 2010

that would be really good PP,
i would be interested to hear more about your ancestor scrap book sewingkilla

25 Nov, 2010

Thankyou so much my friends, and yes Whistonlass. I do put verses inside...not all of them, as some I just put in a seasonal greeting, but the specials I try to make up a verse, print it out, and add it...I have a lot of cd roms with everything on that you need to build up layers and colours, which are a great help and give me lots of ideas. Nice idea for us to start a craft group Pansy.....as there are a lot of us doing different crafts during the winter.....exchanging helpful hints and tips......I havent tied Scapbooking Sewingkilla, but i have seen the cd rom's for it on the crafting channel that I watch, you probably know the one I mean..Lol

25 Nov, 2010

Maureen your cards are fantastic , you have a real talent for putting them together ... I shall feel so guilty sending out my normal run of the mill type this xmas after seeing your beautiful cards .... I don't seem to have the time ! where does it go ?

25 Nov, 2010

Wow Milky....you are talented. What beautiful cards. I'm supposed to make a handmade card for something this Christmas and I know it won't be a patch on yours. Well done.

26 Nov, 2010

Thanks Gilli........

26 Nov, 2010

Brilliant! How much better to make something rather than just take one off a rack. Top marks and an extra portion of jelly and ice cream for you! ;)

26 Nov, 2010

I wonder if Ajay and Peter will allow us to do a craft section, it would be great there are lots of us that do it, and it gives us and others an intrest during the non gardening season,

26 Nov, 2010

Just been thinking about how you make those cards ~ do i take it you have some pictures on cd which allows you to print out multiple copies? sounds fascinating but im interested to know what type of printer you use cos it must take a lot of ink???

26 Nov, 2010

Very impressive Maureen.
My favourite is the Jingle bells mice are you able to swop the mice for something else, hedgehogs by any chance ?

27 Nov, 2010

Yes I do have a lot of cd's with printable images on and the printer is HP and provided that you make sure that the paper or card being used is supersmoot so that the ink doesnt just "sink in" then the cartridges go quite a long way.. Davey, I suppose that you could do it with any little creature, doesnt have to be mice......

27 Nov, 2010

I know it's not a big order but Id be interested in buying this for my o/h with Hedgehogs under the leaf & something like " Sending you all my love at Christmas "
Message me if you like when you have time :-)

Brilliant M. More folk are turning their time back to making things again & getting away from the TV & using their creative side. We all have inate creative drive but seem to leave it behind when we leave school. I am a firm believer that human's actually 'need' to create & the benefit's are plain, an end product, satisfaction & achievement etc. Your work space reflects the standard you achieve. Inspiration to us all.

Thanks Bampy......

Brilliant, It's great to have a winter hobby and these cards are so lovely. I have a little studio as I am cutting glass so need to keep the animals away!! Our pusscat hangs off the doorframe just longing to be let in!! And I agree it's a good thing being away from the tv! Although the radio is on in my studio and I keep hearing the news and weather!!

Oh wow Lulu...do you do stained glass? I would love to be able to do that....What do you make with it?

1 Dec, 2010

Hi Milky, I do use stained glass although I don't use lead, I smash up the glass and use grout instead of lead. I glue the glass onto wood or stone and go from there. There are a few photos of my work in my section of pics on GoY. Hope soon to get my photos back onto my computer (which my puppy ate and I haven't had time to sort it out!!) My hubby surprised me, with 2 months notice that he had bought me a stall at cheltenham races to show and sell my work. I don't mind making the mosaics but I am a bit shy of showing and selling!!

1 Dec, 2010

Just been having a look at your work Lulu...they are wonderful. Hope you have plenty lined up for Cheltenham....maybe you should drag Hubby along to do the selling bit.......Not my cup of tea either selling....

2 Dec, 2010
