Hi everyone! I have not contributed to this page in a long time – mainly due to the convenience of Facebook and gardening groups there! But think it is about time I got to know you all again! I have a large garden in rural Aberdeenshire with just about everything in it but I am especially fond of shrubs, roses, dahlias ( which I exhibit), and exotics! I have been doing a lot of work on the garden over the last year redesigning it. I have moved and replanted or planted new just over 400 shrubs and perennials and I am still at it tho think I am just about finished now! I also replaced an old deck with a new patio. Recently I have become more and more attracted to exotics and the challenge of what I can get away with in my cold part of the country!! Have to wrap up a lot of things in winter so the garden looks as if it is full of ghosts! But it is worth it! Would love to hear from anyone who is fond of shrubs and others who are trying to grow exotics anywhere near me? I live alone with my two cats Pepper and Coco who also love the garden .

I live in a much milder part of the country but, even in This area , at RHS Hyde Hall, they give their Bananas and tree ferns lots of winter protection as in photos on my blog.
I look forward, maybe, to seeing some photos of your newly planted /replanted shrubs and perennials etc in the summer time.

I love Scotland. Any programmes on T/V take me back there for half an hour. Looking forward to seeing photos
of your garden. It was a lot of work. Always nice to
read about members pets.

welcome back to GoY. love nearly all palnts but don't personally like the fleeced ghosts so I tend to plant those that should survive in my e.yorks garden. but i'd love to read about them if you do any blogs.

Hi Mike...now don't you disappear on us again! I am a great shrub lover. I also used to be really keen on pushing the hardiness boundaries like you..but I became quite discouraged in more recent years...but I do have a passion flower on my south facing wall, so all is not lost...and I have a Callistemon too which seems much hardier than I feared it would be. I have a lovely Coronilla valentina in flower right now...it seems fairly tough as well. I think your garden might encourage me to start trying things again :) but I can't do with wrapping things up in winter..not in to that at all. I do have a lovely greenhouse though, with a lemon tree in it and an Apricot (no fruit yet, but early days) and an evergreen variegated jasmine....oh and some lantana which I fell in love with on holidays in the Canaries and had to try to grow here! Welcome back...GOY is far better than Facebook etc....I've been there.
