Slightly worrying news!

Our cat (George) came in limping quite badly this morning. I don’t think he’s been in a fight (as he usually does); I think he’s probably tried jumping up/down from somewhere and twisted his leg. Anyway, he’s off to the vet at 10.50am for a check-up! It’ll be a complete and utter nightmare trying to get him into the basket. I bet there’ll be nothing wrong with the leg/talons when THAT time comes!

What a shame, its unusual for a cat to twist its leg from jumping, either way up or down. Hope he get on ok at the vets, awaiting result from you :o)

Well young George (about 2 years old) is still at the vet's now, for an x-ray early this afternoon. She didn't think there was anything broken, but she couldn't be sure. She checked him all over in case he'd been hit by a car, and she'll do an x-ray to check that as well. I've got to ring from work after 2pm to see what the crack is. As far as getting him into the basket is concerned - I got my eldest lad to do that, and now he's on his way to have some plastic surgery carried out on his arms LOL. There's a lot to be said about pet insurance!!!

Hope all turns out to be well Merfyn, we never know what our cats are up to when they're out do we.
You can't win with pet insurance. Could have used it big time with my last cat when I didn't have any so took it out for this one and never used it in 5 years.........yet! Premiums going up quite a lot every year too but I'm reluctant to tempt fate and cancel it. Keep us updated.

I saw free first 3 months on a pet insurance advertised today on TV. I wouldnt be without my pet insurance but I only have one pet.

23 Sep, 2009

I've seen this little trick before with insurances. What they do is calculate the annual cost of the insurance and then split it between nine months instaed of twelve, which means that your monthly installements are larger. Or am I being cynical? Me? Surely not!

23 Sep, 2009

I have never taken any of my pet to a private vet they are con merchants, I always have taken mine to the pdsa, and donated food or money, they are worth their weight in gold.

Hi Merfyn.... I hope George will be okay...
please let us know.

23 Sep, 2009

I have insurance on Henry - it's as much for my peace of mind, to be honest!

Yes, please let us know about how George is. If he was hit by a vehicle, that driver should have stopped to see how he was!!!!!!

23 Sep, 2009

Awww poor George :((
Hope he's soon on the mend Merf....

23 Sep, 2009

Any news yet Merf? It sounds as though it might have been a vehicle that hit poor George.....maybe even a bike? One of our family cats was hit a glancing blow by a paper boy on his bike one morning - and it dislocated a hip...which happily the vet corrected quite easily. But it just goes to show that even the most apparently street-wise cat can come a cropper.
DO keep us up to speed please.

The latest news on George is that he has suffered a minor fracture to one of his toes, and had to have it bandaged by the vet and then sent home. On the way home he managed to wee in my lad's car (and I've since discovered that he wee'd in mine when I took him there as well!). However, I've just rang home (I'm at work now), and Mrs James informs me that he had the bandage off in seconds and has hidden himself under the bed. Mrs James is waiting for the vet to ring back, but she's not going to put him in that basket again - it's too traumatising for him, which I fully understand. That's the latest bulletin up to now - I'll know more when I get home about 10pm tonight.

How addictive is this site - I'm on it at work for heaven's sake! Anyway, thank you all for your concern. I'll be sure to keep you updated as the latest news comes in!

Thanks for the update, Merfyn ....
You on GoY at work... ???
... my goodness ! Lol.

I hope George's toe heals up soon...
What did the vet say.... ?
....awaiting the next instalment...

Thanks for letting us know poor little chap.

23 Sep, 2009

well thats a releaf merfyn, knowing it wasnt to bad an injury, little monkey doing a peewee in each car lol, they dont like bandages do they, hope all is well when you get home, at work and being on GOY, tut tut merfyn lol

23 Sep, 2009

As George is only a youngster it stands a good chance of healing all by itself Merfyn. Give him a tickle for me :-))

23 Sep, 2009

He's a bit camera shy, but I'll try and get a picture of him on for you all. I've got one on my mobile phone, but:

1) he looks like a rabid tasmanian devil in that pic, and

2) I not old enough yet to know how to download pictures from my phone onto the PC!

23 Sep, 2009

Hope he gets better soon, Merf, but it doesn't sound tooooo serious...he probably landed a bit 'funny' jumping down from a tree/fence or something....it does happen, sometimes, doesn't it? Specially if he's still 'larnin'! Has he got some anti-inflammatories to take, or had an injection ( the 10 day slow release ones are great...no pills to give! )?
Special tickle for George!
;-))

23 Sep, 2009

Like I said Bscott, I don't know what the score is yet till I get home later on, so I'll update you all tomorrow at some point. I've got a feeling that Mrs James is going to try and get the vet to come to the house, but can't see that happening somehow!

Seeing as I'm at work - I better go and do some!!!

23 Sep, 2009

Pleased to hear it is nothing worse...how we worry about our pets don't we. Give him a a big hug from me too....if you can catch him....lol !

23 Sep, 2009

Glad to hear it's not serious. Pets bounce back from these things so quickly and absolutely HATE bandages. Let us see the invalid asap!

23 Sep, 2009

So pleased George is home and its not too serious Merfyn,
he will probably hide away for a few hours now,but at least by doing that he is resting as well which is a good thing. As regards pet insurance ,sadly as you all know I have just lost my Malik ,,we did have him insured so in a few weeks time I will find out whether I`ve been wasting my money all these years or not, saying that it not only covers medical bills but also accidents that might have involved said animal.........

23 Sep, 2009

Hop[ng George will be ok Merfyn.......

23 Sep, 2009

Chewing his bandages, eh.....
'George...don't do that!'

;-)

24 Sep, 2009

Bscott: So we're back to "George" again, are we? LOL You've got a 'thing' about this George character haven't you?

Update to all: The said moggy - George - is now fast asleep on the living room window sill. The vet wanted to put the bandage back on today, but we decided it would be too traumatic for the old chap to be put back in that basket again so soon. We have decided to let it heal itself for a few days, and then see what the score is. I will take him back to the vet sometime next week so that she can have a look at his progress. That should be fun......much! I'll try and get a photo of him now and put it on for you all - if he stays still long enough!

24 Sep, 2009

Delighted to hear that George is now back to his usual relaxed self! Quite agree - the trauma of going back today would have been a bit much for him....and you!
He'll soon let you know if it bothers him...hopefully not.
Give him an ear-tickle from me please!!!

24 Sep, 2009

Sounds positive, Merfyn! That's good. :-))
