starling

I have a starling nest in the eaves of my house. They have been very busy with their young. I was weeding at my pond the other day and had to laugh the birds were taking it in turns to go from the nest to the bird feeder. taking some food from it and taking straight to the nest. This went on for well over an hour! I wondered how the feeder was empyting so quickly! No other bird was allowed near it! I had filled it with a new bird food. ( high energy and protein) Not too sure if this is ok for the young I always thought they had ti have the grubs and worms etc.Although the parents do not do this feeding ritual with normal bird seed! it just seems to be with this new one!
There was a wood pigeon sitting on the roof looking hopefully for any crumbs!

Nice story and pictures Mary doll I would not know about the food but I know not to put nuts out when there is young to feed less they get them stuck in their throat. I know why my feeder goes down quick the squirrel eats it lol I have caught it many times so I placed nuts inside the bird box and nuts on the floor in dish no thats not good enough for the squirrel it climbs and has chewed through the wire of the bird box to get all the nuts, even though I placed nuts on the ground for it. Animals are just like humans servial of the fittest. first come first servered

It always feels like a privelege to have birds nesting in your garden although I suppose they are in most gardens but not always noticed. It's lovely to watch them coming and going but a bit nerve wracking if you have a cat. Looks like they are making good use of all the facilities you have on offer, bet they like the pond too. Looks like you actually have some blue sky!
