A few too many!

I have been planting the Begonia tubers, all the tubers are in for the main show, The Shrewsbury Flower Show. There should be enough for the two local shows in the same propagators. Have plenty left still to put in for the last show, the Roden show, and if there is a show the week before that one i shall plant tubers for those two together. Don’t want too many seperate lots of plants at this stage. Of course i need to have more planted than i need for the shows, because they won’t all make show plants.
I shall need to change some of the timings i.e. measuring the buds when we come to that. But as they’ve gone in to be timed for Shrewsbury first i shall have to hope there are some plants with suitable buds on for The Minsterley.
As i have quite a lot of some varieties i decided to put some of my tubers on ebay. When i take cuttings it is difficult to know how many to take of each variety. If i only took what i needed you could bet that i would loose them, but by taking plenty i often find they all grow and i’m swamped with some varieties. I suppose it’s not take too many, but take more than i need.
One thing, IF i do manage to sell a few it will help towards the cost of growing them. £30 for some of the new varieties from Blackmore & Langdon, although they aren’t all quite that much. Cost of heating – show entry fees – transport to the shows and so on. Although it’s quite expensive, i do really enjoy the shows and feel it’s worth it.
So far i have put: Starburst, Billie Langdon, Can-Can, Sea Coral and Powder Puff onto ebay.
