Hi, had a super time in Germany, failure in the photographic department – sorry.

The leaves on the trees were absolutely fantastic. So many lovely autumny shades. The weather was warm in the middle of the day, but oh so cold at night. It is dry cold, quite nice, not damp and horrible like here. They have had frosts for a couple of weeks now.

Their big garden problem is the leaves, our friend Helga swept up 20 bags full from under her cherry tree – he is a big one. This year though the fruit trees – red cherry, yellow cherry, plums, pears and the hazel nut trees have not fruited, it the first year that they haven’t in Helgas memory, the house has been in her family more than two hundred years and she was born there. It is large garden and there are many mature trees. The big blue conifer by the back door was showing a lot of dead or disease
on its branches, so something strange is happening.

It has been a wonderful trip which included wine tasting on the Rhine valley and beer tasting at a nearby brewery. It will be great to sleep in my own little bed tonight. We go to Germany as part of a Twin Town Exchange, travelling by Coach and North Sea Ferry to Rotterdam and then on to and round Germany, we cover thousands of miles, it’s exhausting but worth it.

Love to all. Marge

Glad you had such a good time.
Don't worry about the photos.
You've given a very good description of all those leaves! :o)

Sounds like fun, Marge! Shame about the photos but you enjoyed it, and the weather does sound more appealing than damp cold! Any idea what is causing the problems with the trees?

Glad you enjoyed your break Marge. I think it is interesting to hear that other parts of the world are experiencing strange happenings with their trees/plants. All climate related I am sure.
