yes it certainly dose Skippy, i do love Heuchera one of my favorite plants at the moment. you can get some really great colours. i have just revamped one of my borders and the colour theme is burgandy, cream, white and lime green, a few touches of pink and lilac for good measure, and i went out to get some more compost and a few winder pansy to fill the gaps, then i come across this - well it would have been rude not to! lol

if it has everlast in the title i would imagine it would be fully hardy. fingers crossed spritz. hi Jac, ooooohhhhh goody! i shall be looking forward to getting thoughs! have you sown any of the ones i sent to you yet? i bet that new greenhouse of yours is already splitting at the sides, lol

18 Sep, 2008

according to my info it should. i did'nt know they had projuced a pink one though. i thought that the only hardy variety yet was this white one hense the name 'Everlast White' - I have been looking for ages for one, then i walked in homebase of all places and there it was right at the front. But they are improving and breading all the time, so hopefully yours will be fully hardy too. we will have to compair notes next spring when they reappear - hopefully! this one is tinged pink, the underside of the pettals are a dusty pinky colour. what is yours called?

lol - well.... this area is done, best i don't take pic's of the patio or the back of the garden! lol i have just been soooooo busy with ebay i have stuff everywhere. and i also cleared out the shed the other day and cleared some space for storage. but you would not believe the amount of rubish i have got rid of. and to be honest think i will run out of weather before i manage to get everything done, i still have 5 trellis pannels to paint and errect! oh well, if i don't get it all done i shull just have to look at this bit it is very close to the house.

thanks spritz, it is a bit of a stunner - i don't think i have ever seen a bigger head on a rose, and that says a lot coming from a florist!

15 Sep, 2008

it sure is spritz, i'll link it to the relevant page in my garden then you will know the variety too, sorry but i don't know this one off the top of my head.

thanks Terratoonie, it looks a little odd in this pic, being different colour to the fence and all different sizes, but look at the more recent photos like you say you can hardly see it!

Sadie, your gues is as good as mine. it seems to have changed pink in the last few days but it is nothing like the pink varigation that i thought it would be. but it is a climber i do know that, as for cutting back i'm not sure to be honest....... bare with me a mo and i'll see if i can find any info in my book......right this is what it says, there are different type all are climbers, mine is A.kolomikta which is suposed to have dark green leaves which mature to varigated pink and cream, but judging by the pic's in my book this only happens once fully established. apparently bares clusters of 3 fragrant white flowers 2cm across, in early summer (mine did'nt do this!) and female plants produce smooth ovoid-oblong yellow-green fruits in autumn - but i think you need a male and female plant for this to happen.

they are fully hardy to frost hardy. grow in fertile well drained soil in full sun, sheltered from strong winds (i have mine in the right place - i think!) apply a ballanced liquid feed monthy during the growing season (mine get a drop of miricle grow every so often). prune in late winter. i think i have the conditions right for mine. so prob just a case of wait and see. but there are different types - do you know what yours is? i'll look it up for you if it's not the same as mine.

you could also try Urn plants, they are quite interesting and it is one that we use quite a lot in our interior landscaping projects -(speaking now as a florist) also you could try phalanopsis orchid. good luck

my first though would be the strange weather we have been having it seems to be affecting all kinds of plants, but it would'nt really make sense for an Arum as the wet conditions without much sun are just what it likes. maybe it is a bit overcrouded? in which case i would advise lifting and dividing once it starts to die back.

sounds like some sort of fungus but a pic would help to identify it.

i asked a question on this a few weeds ago and Owdboggy gave me detailed instructions, - thanks Owdboggy - i have some appearing already!

How about Acer? they don't mind a bit of shade and they would proberly be happy next to a fence as they would get some protection from wind. you could also try hosta, they do flower but are mainly grown for there beautiful leaves.

On question - What should I plant?

30 Aug, 2008

thanks Irish, it is a bit nice is'nt it! when i bought it, it was dormant - just a twig, and the leaves on the picture were half pink and half green, so i was a bit dissapointed when mine turned out all green, but now it seems to be changing for autumn and its truely is stunning, - just goes to show that a little patence goes a long way!

looks very much like an Echivera to me, although half of it is missing if it is. they are normally round rossettes and they are a succulent but smooth not a cacti. - i have several different varieties in my garden, i have them listed all on my garden page of grow on you, with pictures - have a look see if you can identify it. if so message me and i'll give you instructions to bring it back to life. good luck.

according to Gardeners world i was watching the other day the ideal time to prune is just before the kids go back to school, so now really - as traditionally the lavender blooms were havested this time of year for drying out. and apparently it is the best time to do it. and you should cut back to just below where the flower stem starts, making a good over all shape but never cut into old wood as this will kill the plant.

i save mine too, and yes i agree with Spritz, although i dry mine on a kitchen towel in a bowl or tray on my kitchen windowsil - i find this works.

maybe the lack of sun, and amount of rain we have had, i have had very simular problems with both fuchsia and geranium this year, all i have done is tryed to improve the drainage with gravel at the top and bottom of pots, it seems to have helped a bit, but not all my flowers are opening either.

would agree with poaannua, Acuba is usually variegated, P. laurocerasus would be my gues too.
