all this talk of sping poems – i have an interesting story about one i wrote as a child… would have included it as a comment on Andrews poem blog, but too big for a comment!
some of you will proberly already be aware that spelling – just not my strong point! lol but not short of gift of the gap and a way with words! anyway many moons ago when i was about 11 or 12 we were given a home work assingment in school to write a spring poem. my English teacher at the time i don’t think really liked me for some reason and i think becasue i was not the greatest speller in the class had me down as being academically challenged! lol but what this teacher did’nt take into account is that i have a very wild imagination and very creative – ofcourse she did’nt see this side when teaching boaring shakespear or something! lol well i loved creative writing – even though most of the time i was the only one that could understand the spelling lol I was chuffed at this assignment – right up my street and this is what i come up with…
Daffodils fighting to get through,
Snails creeping wet with dew,
Ice cream vans begining to come,
Children playing in the sun,
As the days dream away,
nearly gone is the month of May.
simple but sweet?
well i spent ages on this poem, got my mum to help with the spelling but the word were all my own. i was really proud when handing it in,
well my teacher did not believe that i had wrote it, in fact she accused me of coping it infront of the whole class well i was mortified – i got sent to the headmasters office and everything for cheeting the assignment…
my mum (good old mum) knew that i had done it myself as i had asked every spelling, and also checked with her that May was indeed in spring! so she went up the school and complained about this teacher – who was made to appologise to me in front of the rest of the class… did’nt make her like me anymore tho! lol
i have wrote loads of poem and story’s over the years that have been forgotten but because of everything that happened regarding this poem it is one i have never forgot.
hope you like it!

Great poem Angie. I'm glad that teacher had to back down. That really was justice wasn't it. The teacher probably didn't like you any more, but I bet the rest of the class appreciated you more after that.

thanks, nice to be appreciated! and as for the teacher no she never did like me - but she left the following year and we got a really good english teacher - he was lovely, my friend and i were always late back to school after lunch - and this teacher was also our foam teacher, but we used to come up with such imaginitve reasons for being late - such as, 'friends sisters hamster died and we were having a mimorial service for him in the garden, she was so upset so we had to comfort her' - my friends sister did'nt even have a hamster. i think the teacher knew it but used to find our excuses very amusing!

hi Harli, yes i used to write little storys all the time as a child and a teenager, - i just don't seem to get the time nowdays any spare time is generally spent in the garden or on here! but once Brooke starts school i might be able to find some more time to take it up again. - i've no doubt that she would love it!

That is just the sweetest poem Majeekahead. just shows that you were keen on nature at that young age. As an art teacher, it brings such wonderful images to mind....you really should do a book. One of my students' moms decorated her daughter's paper lunch bag each day, and it became a shared experience for the entire class.
