Buddy the dog AKA ‘The ever present nostral’
24 December 1996 – 7th October 2007
Gone but never fogotten! sadly my stinky mongrel buddy has gone to gard the big bone tree in the sky. he had a long term illness and had to be laid to rest on sunday the 7th of October 2007. his ashes have returned home and i have made a lovely flower bed in his honor, – in his favorite area of the garden – for bone burrying, and the centre piece is a stunning bright red rose bush – not a bone tree i know buddy, but a bit like his personality vibrant and bright – with the red and blue planting all around, a bit quirky, a bit prickly and very loud! – just like buddy was. he certainly made his presence felt at all times – lets just say that boots could now be going bust from the lack of purchases of headache tablets. anyway he had his faults but he was still my best friend, and we loved him dearly. He was also very affectionate, – in fact quite falseful with his affections at times! and bright, and made us laugh a lot with his naughty tricks – usually involving food he is not supposed to have. and he was also a gardener of the dog world! i remember one afternoon having a good tidy up in the garden, pulling out all of the weeds and just throwing them in a pile in the middle of the lawn for collection when finished. and planting some summer bedding at the same time. buddy was out there with me, and when i turned around he had dug a big hole in the middle of the lawn and put some of the weeds in it and covered it back over again – yes i think he was copying mummy and planting some weeds! just one of many fond memories i have of the stinky old mutt.
anyway yesterday afternoon i scattered his ashes whilst planting the new rose bush, and i had a minutes silence for my dearly departed friend – while i realise there are thoughs amongst you that proberbly think i am stark raving mad -(my boyfriend would agree with you on that!) but i know that all of the dog lovers out there will appreciate this – my memorial to my furry person – not just any dog but a friend and a member of this family!
God rest his soul – may the bone trees, bottoms to sniff, chocolate bonio treats, and big fat comfy sofas be plentiful in doggy heaven.
RIP BUDDY.

You certainly aren't alone in being sentimental about your dear departed Buddy. When our old Golden Retriever Ben died, aged 16 years, he was buried in a small Christmas tree plantation in a corner of the garden. Our family put armfuls of garden flowers on his grave for ages afterwards. It's a difficult time when you lose a pet, but I found it helped to keep a photo of him on the kitchen windowsill, that way he was always near me. Even now, so many years on, we still talk about him with fond memories, as you will with Buddy.

thanks Littlelarford, i do have several photos of him around the house, and making the flower bed and scattering his ashes has really helped too, i found it was a really nice way to say my goodbyes. even my two year old daughter misses him, i don't think she really understands, but she sometimes mentions him, - it brings a tear to my eye, - we told her that he has gone to heaven to gard the baby Jesus, and now that she is doing songs about Jesus coming to earth in sunday school in prep for the little christmas service all the little ones are involved in she keeps asking if buddy is going to be coming with Jesus. it really is amazing how there little minds think.- bit of a hard one to get out of but i think she will be efficently distracted at christmas with all of the presents etc... once she see that fifi dolls house don't think she'll give poor old bud a second thought! lol

I certainly don't think your mad, I think what you have done is really beautiful. I lost my dog Gemma four years ago I had her ashes put in a wooden casket and she is burried in our garden we planted a flowering cherry and laid a stone . This is now known as Gemma's garden. My grandson Ben who is nine always says hello Gemma when he is playing near the tree. Pets are part of the family or at least they should be. I know some people don't respect animals which I find very hard. I'm sure your rose will bloom for many years in memory of Buddy.

May he rest in peace, Majeeka. I hope his rose flourishes and reminds you of your friend.
