Madaboutplants' Profile
About me
My husband of 46 years and I are a good team. I look after the plants and he does all the hard landscaping using me as a labourer. He also mows the lawn or should that be moss beds. We have a third of an acre and over the thirty 36 years that we have lived here we have recycled the church in which he was baptised, kept chickens (kids refused to eat eggs or chicken so I had to get rid of them to a friend) and brought up 3 children. The garden is ever changing and now we are having to have a forester to cut down trees which have outgrown their space. He will bring a chipper so I can keep them on site. I am sad to see old friends go but am already on the look out for alternatives. We get lots of birds, robins, blackbirds, thrushes, blue, long tailed, great and coal tits, woodpeckers, sparrows and a sparrowhawk, kestrels, barn owls, chaffinch, greenfinch, redpolls, rooks, carrion crows, a hoodie crow, starlings etc etc.We also get squirrels We only feed nuts in "squirrel proof" feeders but they destroy them. The blackbirds and thrushes love the yew berries but never eat fallen ones but along comes the squirrels who pick up the fallen berries and nibble them. My friends laugh at my bargain basement buys as I take the view that the smallest possible plant (and therefore the cheapest) will always make better headway than a bigger specimen. I have so many friends (cuttings, gifts of new or split plants from other gardeners ) in the garden that I would be very unhappy if I had to move .
