hi everyone I agree about joe swifts pratting around he's still doing it on gw now, ken crowther just as bad on radio essex does anyone remember percy thower? he was the best

Remember him ????????
I think his programmes were the best !
I have some recorded on the Skyplus thingy, along with other favourite gardening shows and i watch them through the winter months every year !!!
(or 'bad weather days' throughout the rest of the year!!!)

Anyone remember the late Geoff Hamilton ????

What re-awakened my interest in Gardening was the enthusiasm he had when he used to be on GW as money was even tighter then for me than it is now I used to love his tips for gardening on the cheap, (I think he would have £1 to spend) Oh happy days,

This is gardening fleece used to protect plants and keep root fly of things like carrots. Should be available in any garden centre - or at least it is in the UK

Being a newbie what is this fleece you speak of? Is it like shredded cotton that you stretch out or something different?

Yes the dahlias will flower for a few months yet.:))

my dhalias are the only ones still flowering love them to bits
other than that its only my so called "cascading" roses with blooms but I have fallen out with these

roll on Autumn colours I say

I'm so pleased to read your blog LL, I thought it was just me and I was losing interest in my flowery things! Seems it's a seasonal thing, the wait between the summer and the golden days of autmn. I too like the colours and the changes of autumn. I like winter as well and of course spring is brill. and summer is just great............ Hmmmmm? ? ?

What is this rose named please?

Lovegreen you could cover them with fleece to keep the snow off the plants.

Ah yes. I have their site in my favourites. thanks...

Aug/Sep is not my favourite time of year. I usually feel rather miserable at this time. I don't know why. Maybe it's as you say - not as exciting as the spring. I like the autumn though.

Very nice. I like a 'cottagy ' look . It's very restful.

And should I cover them to keep snow off when it arrives sometimes early October with temps still in the 30s?Sorry lobeli for using your space for my question, but what good is a question if it doesnt inspire more thought

Good for you LL....I know what you mean about this time of year...especially after all the lousy weather we've had!
I've got glads coming up but not much else except the sedum which never lets me down...maybe I'll follow your lead & spend the hubby's first new pay packet at the garden centre!!
Do you think he'll object??!! :0)

Hi Lovegreen mid 20s farenheit, in other words a mild frost but not a heavy prolonged frost. Kale on the other hand can take anything the weather can throw at it

A bit like the paintings lovely
