A FAILED BUG HUNT...

The wind was down slightly today so I thought I’d go bug hunting. Not to squish or spray mind you..no..but armed with camera and macro lens. Don’t expect any pics of any bugs though ‘cause I didn’t get any.

This bee (or some stripey thing) landed on my Centaurea and didn’t seem phased at all by my presence, so I hunkered down, framed my shot and >>>>>>>>>>>>>whoosh! Off he went, never to return. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr. So, I continued on my mini safari, eyes peeled for the slightest movement and discovered that there wasn’t any. What a bummer. Just as I was about to give up, I spotted this tiny creature on my hosta. It was like a little ant and no bigger, but had red stripes on it. No idea what it was, but it was very pretty. So, more hunkering, more framing and this time I even got as far as focusing and it decided it’d had enough and he flew off too. Arrrgghhhh!!!!! Failed bug hunt indeed.

Anyway, I did some jobs that needed doing instead. My spuds are sprouting, so I earthed them up, did some deadheading and planted the Phygelius I’d bought that hadn’t yet made it into the ground, severing two arms off my Dicentra in the process. I was well miffed about that as I thought I was being really careful. Honestly, you wouldn’t believe the number of plants I destroy all by myself, never mind the weather, lol. Added to that, my fuchsia cuttings are not doing well. One has had it and the others seem very soft. I don’t know why as I did it all as the ‘experts’ suggest. Better luck next time maybe.

Still, there is some nice growth going on now and some blossoms out, so it’s pics of flowers again I’m afraid. :o)

My Osteospermums.

Geranium ’Johnson’s Blue’

The little Viola’s are looking lovely now and really filling their space.

All the roses are in bud and the Maigold is doing particularly well.

A Chive flower.(in amongst the mint)

Finally, my potted Lilies. Mind you, some of these aren’t doing quite so well. The Asiatic ones seem to be doing alright (although this one has a head knocked off)

but these Oriental ones most definitely don’t seem to be growing properly. Some of them haven’t even come through and those that do, the shoots just fall over. I knew these bulbs weren’t perfect when I received them so maybe that’s the problem, but I’m not holding out much hope for these.

So, that’s me about up to date I think. Not much else going on at the mo. Oh, yeah. The postie delivered my RHS Encylopaedia of Gardening today. What a fabulous, big, fat book. I can’t wait to get buried in that. :o)

I can just imagine you stalking the bugs, Llew. I had the same problem trying to capture a shot of a bee recently. Love the photos of the flowers, brilliant.

I'm a terrible stalker, Gee. I'm sure I must look quite daft sometimes, lol.

Mookins, I hope hubby enjoys his new camera. I am a dedicated Canon user myself with a Sigma macro lens but I have seen pics with a Nikon that are superb and knock spots off of others. Mind you, it's all down to the lens and the person behind the camera rather than the camera itself. I'll look forward to seeing some pics. :o)
