You can't have it all.

I have so many Gardeners Delight tomatoes waiting to ripen, they have everything going for them that I can see, I just want them before there is any change in the weather.

My dwarf beans that I have never grown before are fantastic, so many of them on each plant, the only drawback is having to get on the ground to pick them, have to drop hints for a raised bed, about table height would be ideal!!

So we keep on trying, and we know that no two years are ever the same.

Well done Lizziebee- I think veggie growers are having a good year. I've been watering tomatoes for a couple of neighbours who have been on holiday recently and I'm impressed on how good a crop they are going to have.
I hope those tomatoes ripen soon for you!

Thanks Scottish, I think many of us are running a bit late this year.

My cucumbers are coming fast and furious now but although my toms are heavily laden they are very slow in ripening up, your beans are doing well, mine are only just beginning to flower.......

What a wonderful crop of beans! Well done. If you can somehow fix a ripe tomato amongst your green ones the gas it gives off will start them off - try it and see! always leave a red one among the green ones when harvesting, for the same reason.(Banana skins sometimes work too)

I have the same trouble with my tomatoes. All but the little yellow cherry tomato plant are laden but still very green. I've had bumpers of yellow cherry toms. I've snipped off the tips now to discourage new growth and concentrate energy on ripening what is already there. I've also thinned out side shoots and extraneous leaves to allow more circulation which Monty Don assures me will aid in ripening before cold weather sets in and I lose it all. :-) I'll try the ripe tomato trick, too, just to cover all my bases.

What a great idea, perhaps I could fool them with some 'vine tomatoes' you see in shops. I also have stopped them , I always do as there is a limit to how many you want, and the very small ones are unlikely to make it, I have removed all the bottom leaves, I grew these from seed, but I did buy a Sungold' plant as I like them but only wanted one, and they have only just given me a taste of what is to come, they are very sweet with all this sun.

Shop tomatoes will work just as well as home grown ones Lizziebee. You don't need a whole bunch of "vine toms" and they are more expensive than the rest. Even the very small ones will ripen this way at the end of the season if you pick them off on the vine and lay them out somewhere. (I used to use a spare bed) they ripen off a few at a time, and the trick is always to leave one or two ripe ones to encourage the rest.

Well done on your crops. I grew those dwarf beans last year. They were very nice.
