Slug is a good name for a slug isn't it !!!! Tried all sorts, guiness, larger, sharp stones and yes eggshells but the little 'Ss' keep on munchin. I even had a notion that they have wings cos they come up on our deck to find my hosta some three feet off the ground !

Copper rings work for me. In slug pubs, it's the yeast that really attracts them rather than the beer

Slug it. Put 20ml in your water can and then water around the plants and it kills them.

Years ago I collected a biscuit tin full in one session but since I built my two big ponds I've forgotten what a slug looks like. I just leave to the frogs now. A small pond is just as good.

I must be the odd one out this year, which is very unusual.Had more small ones early in the year, but at the moment, not so many .None of my plants have suffered at all.I can't understand it.Only thing I can think of,is that I bought an organic product, from the Gardener who had a Potato day in February, which was called "Sheep...it."(that's the name on the bag,not my name for it ).It has lots of wool fibres in,and apparently they stick to the slug, and it dries out.I dug it into the borders, and containers,as it is also a fertiliser. Can't think of anything else it can be,as I usually have loads of the little horrors.
someone rang in on his Radio show recently, and said they had been looking for it in the Garden centres, but couldn't find it ,but apparently,it is now been ranamed as "Slug gone".I haven't checked it out,as I still have some left, but maybe some of you have.It would be interesting to know what results you have had,if you have tried it.Sorry this is so long, but I can't think of any other reason I seem to be doing OK ,this year....

Did a search for the name & came up with this:

Quote: "Slug Gone pure wool pellets are a natural and environmentally friendly way of protecting your flowers, plants, fruit and vegetables from every gardeners nemesis - the common Slug. Using no harmful chemicals or pesticides Slug Gone is suitable for those with children and or animals." end quote.

Their webpage: http://www.sluggone.com/

Hope this helps.

Thank you for taking the time to search this product,Balcony...Its nice to know it does what it says on the packet. It looks as though it has helped me control the horrid things..I still go out with a torch and trowel at night, weather permitting, and have often come back in,having seen nothing,so its good news for me :o)).

I also do a slug patrol but with a torch and salt cellar - MUCH more satisfying <evil grin>

Lol,Andrew,I do put salt around the base of my plastic compost bin,and I haven't found them on the inside of the lid for a while..very satisfying,(another evil grin}..:o))

Cayenne pepper sprinkled around the pot and on top of the soil. It doesn't hurt birds but squirrels and slugs get burned out. hee hee

Interesting Bloomer, I've been claiming that it's my pond that prevents slugs, but you've got me thinking, For the last ten years the field next door has had sheep on it. The farmer has the breed that moult and in spring the field is covered in wool...and poo of cause.

could well be a connection there,Heron, and your pond as well.Funnily enough,I picked a leaflet up about this product at a garden centre today, and it has brilliant information as regards being made of pure wool in pellet form,,and a by product of the wool textile industry, and approved by the soil association, for organic gardening. It also claims to be excellent for soil moisture retention, weed suppression, and improver...I spoke to the lady at the garden centre about it,and she said she had used it too, with the same results as me,so very pleased with it..

THE ONLY ONES I MAY GET ARE TRYING TO CLIMN MY MAGNOLIA TREE, AFTER WATERING IT ABOUT AN HOUR OR SO I GO OUT ARMED WITH TORCH AND SHAKE THEM OF,,
