Easter

Hi All, I didn’t do a lot of gardening over the holiday because of the cold wind and snow on the ground, although it didn’t last long. Yesterday I did a spot of hoeing, although the garden has kept well over the Winter months. The lawn has been raked of moss and there was plenty of that!!!!! Lots of different birds visiting the garden and some have been gathering nest material although I should think that the cold snap will set them back a bit. Have seen several large bumble bees emerging this last week. We have four lots of frog spawn in the pond. A few weeks ago we spotted a pereguin falcon on Belper mill. Probably one of the babies from the pair on Derby Cathedral.Take care Linda K.

I always find that when the weather turns really cold lots of different birds visit my garden. This weekend we had long tail tits, a woodpecker and a thrush, which is most unusual for us.

I'm noticing the same. We had 5 different birds all at the same time feeding on our terrace right next to the house at breakfast today. We has long tailed tits, great tits, sparrows, goldfinches and a blackbird forraging in my plant pots. This is unusual for us. On the whole we find the Hungarian birds keep their distance from dwelling places more than the English birds. Maybe because there is not such a strong interest in feeding garden birds here. It is changing and bird feeders and wild bird food is now available in the big chain stores. At one time it was unheard of.
