snow on snow

Hi, I sprinkled some salt around outside near the garage as it was a sheet of ice. The sun is up and the snow looks pretty. I took a while to scrape the snow from the car as it was frozen on and not easy to get off. The robin has been on the bird table and I saw a blackbird drinking from the tiles on the roof that were melting. We cut Peter the rabbit’s claws yesterday as they were getting long. I have him sitting on my lap holding hiss little feet in the air, while Gerry cuts the claws. He had a run about in the conservatory before we put him back outside. Didn’t want to keep him inside too long because of the extreme changes of temperature for him. Saw some youngsters tobbogganing down the road. There isn’t much traffic on this road. It was nice to see them enjoying themselves. When my son was little we used to head off for the park and have a go but it was always me who fell off on the way down hitting a bump!!!! When I was younger and lived on the Isle of Wight I used to go riding in the snow through the woods and it was lovely, but the horses used to get very excited and be on their toes. You need to wear thermals though as you get very cold sat in the saddle in the cold. Anyway keep warm everyone, the white blanket will be gone soon and we will be busy thinking of Spring and what to buy and grow in the garden. I am getting excited as to what to plant on my blank canvas for some colour.

Shiver, shiver! Hope it goes soon. Yes, Linda - I want to get out there too - there's work to be done under that white blanket!

I hope it clears soon Linda. It's getting on my nerves. lol
There's such a lot to do and the winter is just a nuisance now.

the weathermen say that tomorrow we shall get some more snow. What we have has melted quite a bit since this morning. Went to take a picture of the robin but both batteries were flat on the camera so I have to recharge them. Must go and get some more milk tomorrow morning early.

I see you live close to me Linda - so hope we don't get more snow tomorrow too :-( Still stuck with yesterday's.

I've been wearing my walking boots as they have good soles on for gripping. The ordinary boots I have tend to slip a bit on the snowy icy surface. I wonder what sort of shoes with soles they wear in other countries where it snows a lot to get a good grip on the ground. Why is it that we can't seem to cope in this country even when we get lots of warning about the conditions beforehand.

Well Linda, I don't know about others but I have Sorel snow boots. The soles and around the feet are made of a softish rubber. Above that the boot extends up the leg to my knee and is make of nylon with a waterproof backing. They have inserts which are like "inner boots" made out of 2 layers of a wool based felt with a thermal insulating layer sandwiched in between. The boots tighten at the ankle with laces and then the tops have a lace around them so you can tighten them around your legs to stop the snow getting down inside as much. They are very warm and the rubber soles are designed to grip in the snow. They are much warmer than wellies.

I've not heard of them but perhaps our local camping shop that sell all the walking gear will have something. I'll keep my eyes open when I'm going round the shops.
