moving house to a new garden

moving house to a new garden

Posted on 1 Nov, 2008 12 comments

Just over two weeks ago Gerry and I moved from East Lodge to just up the hill in a bungalow with a much smaller garden. I shall post some pictures in a weeks time. We are still emptying boxes and getting sorted indoors at the moment but I have been outside now and again having a sneaky DIG at the beds. The are overgrown as are the shrubs so everything is coming out and I am starting afresh with a blank canvas. We are getting some help to get rid of the large eight foot shrubs as I cannot do what I used to be able to so it may be the Springtime before I really get going. It’s exciting though isn’t it. I have planned the back garden already with half a veggie patch that the kitchen looks out on to and half lawn and flowers that the lounge looks out on to. I love my fresh veggies. The soil is a lot more clay here so any suggestions for plants for a small garden…no latin names as I’m not that clever. Thanks. At least we are back on the internet now so I can take part again on this lovely gardening site sharing with others. Best wishes from Lindak.
ps Twinkle has been going outside on a lead then in a weeks time I shall be having anxious moments when I let her out on her own but at least she seems relaxed now and Peter is fine under the car port in his hutch.

thanks both, it will be hard work for a while but worth it in the end. There is a convenient bus stop at the end of this close that goes all the way to Derby....just right.

Will you miss the big garden, or are you more relieved that the maintenance will be so much less? (once you've got the new one under control, I mean!) Post some photos ASAP so that we can see all this, won't you!

Welcome to your new home!

It's been lovely to be able to be creative in the other quarter of an acre garden and see it develope over the years that we were there but now we are getting older we felt it was time to get a smaller plot. If I end up with time on my hands I shall pick up the watercolours and get painting for charity again. We have a conservatory and the light will be right out there.

I've made a small start with digging out overgrown flowerbeds and I am doing a little bit at a time but being thorough with it and the dandelions have tap roots of six inches. I've planted some snowdrops, and dug up daffodils and crocus in clumps. I've separated them out and replanted about four to each hole so that will do them good. Thankyou again for all your good wishes about the new home. It really does feel like home now even though we are still clutter bound.
