Meeting up with Karen and Kath at Glamis

After a false start last Thursday (when the brakes failed on our car)……..my husband Barry and I went to Glamis to meet up with Karen and Kath in the walled garden. They both deserve a medal for the work they have done there as the gardens are full of colour and fantastic plants. This is never easy in Scotland in September. We exchanged plants in true GoY fashion and I was shown their amazing handywork. Pity the grapes weren’t ready. :0)
It is just lovely to meet people you know so well from this site. Barry took some photos of us….I won’t tell you how he made us laugh, but black Lycra was mentioned.
Karen went off to see if she had sold her house…….that is her news, and we went round the castle.
It was a great day out….thanks girls!!!!!!
Hope to see you in Glasgow.

We did! It was so lovely to meet Linda, but not at all strange as we really already knew one another! I'm glad you had a good day Linda.....weather not as warm as last week, but not too bad. only sorry I had to leave you so soon, but it was a good result for us with the house. :)

Yes Driad. Glamis Castle, childhood home of the late Queen Mother and birthplace of the late Princess Margaret. home to the Earls of Strathmore and Kinghorne for hundreds of years. it is a very beautiful and historic place. :)

I told my hairdresser this morning that I was going home to cook beetroot from the ex-Queen Mother's garden. How is that for name dropping?

I dread to think Kath! folk are always snapping me...it's like the blooming paparazzi! Lol!

Linda....thank you so much for the Cardiocrinum. I picked it up today. The other plants have gone home with Kath. she's looking after the begonia for me until we move! :))

Angela, we had some wonderful visitors this week. The sheer joy on their faces...it makes my heart sing! Some people think I'm mad doing it for no money, but I do it for my own heart, and for the visitors, and to help out the Head Gardener, my dear friend Chris. that is worth so much more to me than money, which happily I have enough of thankfully. I think Kath feels similar......though she will speak for herself. I love the place...always have. And it was only when Kath told me that I found out that the walled garden existed. For many years it lay derelict, and many people, locals, don't even know about it. If we can bring it back to life...and I think we already have....then I will have really achieved something special!

The gardens are a credit to you both. I can understand why you do it. As I said.......if I lived nearer I would join you.
