Lyme Park.. Formal Gardens and The Orangery...

I have visited many of these grand houses and gardens but quite honestly this one takes some beating… South front taken from the opposite side of the pond, the exterior of this grand house was used as the home of Mr Darcy in the BBC’s Pride and Prejudice in 1995, it was also used in Red Dwarf episode “Timeslides, as a location for filming some scenes in The Awakening in 2011 and the second series ofThe Village” in 2014 , I guess you could say its a popular venue in more ways than one and does earn its living.

The lake is affectionately known as The Lake of Reflections…

On a beautiful day like this you can certainly see where it got that name from..
Now we’ll take stroll around the gardens..
First is the south garden, from all angles, well you have to don’t you….

Over the railings we look down onto The Dutch Garden.

The statues represent the four elements, Earth, Air, Fire and Water..
I walked around the gardens towards the Orangery..

Somebody else however has cheated again and cut across the lawns to the steps which we take to get up to the Orangery, looks very impressive doesn’t it…

Oh Wow!!, carry on dreaming Susie cos you’re never going to get one of these put in at home…

No idea where hubby’s gone this time so I continued on in my own sweet way and came across the Rose Garden, with a pond, obligatory fountain and an arbour with a living roof, the roses were mainly buds but I bet if we’d have been a couple of days later the perfume would have been amazing in this garden..

Well he’s not hiding away in there, lol…

Guess its time for me to get my mobile out again, lol..

Time for another cuppa, and I’ll take you through those borders and into the park in part three…

I was very impressed with the house but the gardens are truly magnificent. What a setting! The inside of the orangery is beautiful, I love the fountain. You really must have loved being there, in beautiful weather too.

I love an Orangery and that's a spectacular one, isn't it?
It looks like a great place all on such a large scale.
I'm not sure whereabouts in the country this is but I just wonder if it's in an area that's been cold this year as I can't help thinking the borders/beds don't have that frothy , blousey feel that many have at this time of year. It just made me wonder.

My word, those are Formal Gardens with capital letters - wonder how many gardeners they have. I bet even Jane Austen would have been surprised that Mr Darcy lived in a place that size!

Looking again Paul...they have been planted in a very Victorian bedding style which is quite out of favour nowadays....thankfully!

Yes it really was a very good day, in fact it was good all week, I do like the Formal Gardens in places such as that but wouldn't want it here at home, I much prefered the walkway through the borders, more my style, I always lose Derek, he takes lots of shortcuts, then sits and waits for me to turn up, when I say" you've missed half of it " he just laughs and says "I haven't cos I'll look at your photo's on computer"..
Paul its near Disley in Cheshire, edge of the Peak District just off the A6 on the route between Manchester and Buxton...

Wonderful isn't it ... I enjoy gardens like that - I can feel the years of care and attention it's received over the generations.
I loved that big Echeveria in a pot. I want mine to grow like that lol
I'm glad you had such a nice day to visit the place.

It looks like the sort of garden when you should be wearing a long dress --(only the ladies, lol)

Wonderfully impressive. The formal plantings suit the gardens very well. As for the orangery ... well, it's just magnificent. I wonder if my Echevaria will ever get to that size.

Greenfinger I would be over the moon if I achieved anything that looked like some of the planting in these gardens and the orangery, the only thing I wouldn't try are the formal beds as that style is not my way although I like them in the gardens at the stately homes and parks.....

Lincs, he must have been replying to you not to me - perhaps I should become Suem to avoid confusion!
