A Funny Ole Year in My Garden but I am Getting There !!! ..

I refuse to dwell on last year as regards the garden, I have made up for it this year, springtime started early and the garden had obviously enjoyed the mild wet winter and didn’t seem to mind being neglected..

I had a lot of jobs to catch up on with not being able to do much last year, some of the roses had been pruned others got missed out but it doesn’t seem to have done them any harm, apart from being very leggy, that could also be down to a lack of light in the earlier part of the year..

i planted my square bed and put beans and sweetpeas behind the greenhouse..

As you can see the Runnerbeans are doing well for me.

The Sweetpeas took ages to begin flowering but are still going strong, I have just noticed that in the pic they are all bluey/mauve on the side showing, thats very clever dont’cha think, I am not that clever though and didn’t plan it that way, there are other colours, just not showing in my pic..

The square bed was a complete failiure, I ony had a few lettuces and about half a dozen leeks which I have transplanted to the back of the g’house, hubby has taken it out for me and I am in the process of preparing it ready to re-grass, I think its the fact that the Plum tree, has grown so quickly its too overshadowed now, plus the Passion Flower has also gone mad this year and has taken over the fencing that separates dogrun from the main garden, have to rethink where to put my salad crops next year, maybe grow in pots again, time will tell…

That Passion Flower has to go as its forever sending new shoots up into the g’house but first I have to get a new one started elsewhere as I do like it….
The tomato’s and cucumbers are doing ok in my g’houses although both seemed to be at a standstill for weeks, the toms are only just beginning to ripen, I’ve chucked banana skins in and started to remove some of the bottom leaves from the toms to try and give them a kickstart..

The above pic shows the Ceonotus on the fence, another one that didn’t get its annual haircut last year ..

I tackled that one yesterday, I do know from past experience that it will bounce back so not worried…

Caspars resting place still pretty colourful, the grass is recovering and filling in nicely, the pansies don’t seem to like it so different plants needed here..

On the patio next to Malik’s water feature,( needs a new coat of varnish and I must paint the little watering can black, it sticks out like a sore thumb,) we have a new pot, Sherryl chose the pot, she also chose the plant to go in it, the colours represent Morgan who as you know was her choc/lab, his eyes used to glow orange and yellow when he was younger depending on the light..

The Begonia’s and the Geranium basket have really took a battering this week and the amount of times I had to pick up my succulents and put them back on the shelves I lost count of, none broken though so thats a relief..

They are already showing signs of not liking the weather so I’ll be popping them back into the g’house soon, that means planting up some pots for the shelves, can’t have empty shelves can I…

Lots of gaps to fill in on this side as well, I only have one dahlia this year and most of my gladioli have come up blind, guess that means a trip up to the local nursery, now ain’t that a shame…..
I know its a long blog, sorry about that but as you can see I have reclaimed my garden, shame the summer seems to have beggared off yet again…..

Think your garden looks lovely and glad that you are going to get another passion flower, I have a bit of a weakness for them :-). Your pond looks of clear!!!!! Having had a pond at my last house, I know how hard it is to get it so.

Great garden! I don't know why but my gladiolus didn't flower either and that is a first. I can think of no reason for it.

Definitely on top of things this year! Your garden is a lovely one and very pretty indeed. Your roses are gorgeous and the sweet peas have obviously done really well.

I really enjoyed that LL! Its great looking back over the seasons. Your last picture is so lovely, and your pond is beautiful! I reckon you could prune that passion vine back hard and it would come back...? I did that in my first garden and it recovered fine...might be worth a try, unless you fancy something different there of course! Love the pot of remembrance :)

Thank you for showing us round your garden, it looks fine from what you call 'neglect'. Perhaps all plants like a respite from being tended and managed, it's an excuse I give myself when I don't get round to something anyway!
The pond looks wonderful (no neglect there), the roses lovely and the passion flower obviously adores your garden!
Great to see the pictures of earlier in the year, we forget how fleeting tulips and bluebells are and how pleased we are to see them early on. I like your raised bed in front of the ivy and the rest too of course.

I really enjoyed seeing your garden from Spring through to present day ... it must be great for you to be back out there after a year off. My Passion Flower has gone mad this year too ... up and over the fence into the neighbours cherry blossom tree ... luckily they love it ... phew!

Great blog Sue. I loved the springtime photos - my fav time of year and I am already starting to buy bulbs lol
At least you've got some tomatoes even if they are not ripe. Mine are the size of pin heads :(
I'm glad to know you are now able to enjoy the garden again :)

Thankyou all, its really good to get back into the swing of things, the weather did my head in for a while at the beginning of the summer as I was raring to go, bet I wasn't the only one who felt like that though, now we need some rain, there is never a happy medium is there...
